when ever i record in DoW or Diablo 2 (best RPG ever!!), my fps goes straight down to 20-25 fps when i run DoW or Diablo 2 at 30-60 at times, y is this? and is it possible to change it so u will be able to record in-gameplay at the current fps ur comp can handle without going slower when recording?

my specs:

Operating System: Windows XP Professional sp2
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 +3000 (sok 939) 1.8 GHZ
GPU: Nvidia Geforce 6600 LE PCI-E, 256mb
RAM: 1280 mb DDR RAM: PC3200 1GB Kingston, 2 PC2700 128mb Micron Tech
Chipset: KN1 Lite, nVidia nForce 4

FRAPs is taking your screen data and recording it to your hard drive. You expect the same FPS when you have a second program running that's gobbling up memory? That's like asking if you can run two instances of a game while retaining FPS - it just isn't going to happen. There are things you can do to increase FPS, such as lowering your graphics settings and reducing the amount of running programs, but expecting no change in FPS is a little unrealistic.

o i c, im really waiting for the quad-core processor from AMD n the DX10 GPU from ATI (AMD=ATI) to come out this fall, it's rumored DX10 cards might come this fall too to be ready for Vista games.

but i can see that running two things is unrealistic, ill tone down the graphic settings n stuff but other then that, thx for the info.

why not play a game...save the replay

and record to video (using fraps) the replay?

I used to use fraps, but i did notice too it took a lot of memory to capture screens. I think FastCapPro is a better utility, even though the interface isn't as straightforward. Also for the unregistered version there is no limit on how much time you can record, only a box at the bottom. If anyone has ever played GUN, it is pretty advanced in graphics and etc. and fraps was really taking down the fps and messing up sound so i recommend you try fatcappro.
