change the following in doom3config.bin
seta r_skipSpecular "1"
seta image_useCache "1"
seta image_cacheMegs "128"
seta image_cacheMinK "128000"
seta image_filter "GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_NEAREST"
and..... use low quality, at 640x480
also, at the beginning of each map, type seta r_specular 0 in console
and turn off bump maps, vertical sync, etc.
OR.
if you want to run it at like like medium quality... with some of those things on, maybe even high quality... get a new gfx card. tell me how much money you want to spend and i will tell you what gfx card would be good for you.
hope that helps!
bye

Well amigo, you dont need another processor to play doom 3 exactly... but you will need to upgrade in the future.. i would suggest just getting a new comp. i would recommend either the XFX geforce 6600 gt agp, or possibly the geforce 6800 xt, like that guy above me said. However, you may just want to save your money some more until you have like 700..... then you can build a new computer. More ram wouldn't hurt.... but I would save the money and try to get a new comp.

You need more RAM memory and graphics card whereby you could even think about playing the game deservingly. Processor is also your machine's weak point. If you don't have too much money or if you don't have money for upgrading your PC, I suggest you lower graphical details. That will make your game more playable untill you gather enough money for Dual Core AMD processors and Nvidia's 7950GX2 graphics cards. You can't enjoy the game completely with low-end machine. I know that your machine was formerly a top gaming beast, but that those times have come through. You have to face the truth. You have to start gathering money for your new top gaming machine. Technology always goes forward. The day after day, the year after year. Time tramples our machines and we can't do nothing about it apart from buying a new machine which contains high-end components whose will be forgotten as well. You must be asking yourself: "Where's the climax?" That question cannot be answered by you, me or anyone else. Even the scientists cannot answer that question. I'm sure everyone would like to trace technology, but to find that kind of person is a true rarity. I bought a top gaming PC 4 years ago. Now, it's an old bin which barely runs new titles and all new games lag a lot. So I recently bought a new machine equipped with AMD X2 3800+ processor, Asus M2N32 SLi Deluxe Motherboard, 2 GB of Corsair Micro memory and everything works perfectly whilst my old machine chokes in the dust every day and it slowly perishes. My new machine will admire the same destiny. I'm looking forward to Doom 4. I'm ready to work hard in order to acquire enough money for a new machine which will be venerable of Doom 4. I have never heard anything about Doom 4. I just hope it will come up from the dark someday. Sorry about this lengthy post, but I had to abalienate what I felt.

You could buy Nvidia 6800 GT and AMD 64 3200+ Single Core, socket 939, 1 GB of RAM in order to greatly improve your gaming experience. All these components are not so expensive as they were, so this is the right chance.
