doom3 question

I'm kind of new to playing games on a computer. I just bought doom3 and while I do like it, I seem to have a small problem. Could someone tell me what's the best monitor resolution and refresh rate for the game. I seem to get a blurry horizontal line that seems to scroll from the top of the screen down to the bottom. Other than that, so far so good. Thanks

Re: doom3 question

This is called tearing usually. it happens when your video cards starts to finish creating the next frame faster than your monitor can refresh the screen. There is no best resolution for any game, basically whatever your video card san handle and still produce acceptable framerates.
Most games in the Graphics options provide fa setting to limit the videocards framrates to match the Refresh rates of you monitor. This setting is called Vertical Sync or vertsync for short. there may also be a setting to force the use of vertsync in you video cards driver settings also.

That is a V-Sync problem. To get the best Vertical Sync, I've heard that 72hertz or Higher, is recommended. As enabling V-Sync slows down your Frame rate.

However, usually setting it higher than 60hertz, puts a little more strain on the Eye, I think.

Re: doom3 question

Thanks Pest, sorry it took so long to get back, but I couldn't log onto the server for some reason. Anyway I turned on vsync and it worked. I've got the resolution now at 800x600 at 75hz refresh rate and it looks good.
