DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil

GI issue 141 has some infromation on the exansion pack (page 108), so i figured i'd sum it up for those of you who don't get the magazine:

ID is sticking to 'when it's done' for a release date (but you all knew that already... ;))

ok, so two years after DOOM 3, the cyberdemon is dead and betruger has fled. you're playing as a different marine sent down by UAC to assist an investigation of a strange becon at the first alien dig site. the becon turns out to be the artifact from hell. anyway, betruger hears you've got this thing and sends 3 hell-spawned hunters to kill you and take the thing back.

new weapons: first you get an "antique double-barreled shotgun" (thats how GI put it), then the "Grabber", which is like HL/HL2's gravity gun, but you can catch and return enemy projectile (imp just toss a fireball at you? toss it back! ). ok, but then theres the artifact: after killing each of the hunters the artifact absorbs thier power, and you get to use it. "In order, you get a slow-time effect, a berserk ability (much like the Berserk power-up), and a limited invulnerability - and they stack." but, you've got to feed the thing 'good souls' found on dead humans for it to work.

so, 3 new weapons, 3 new enimies, and a campaign id estimates to be one half to two thirds as long as DOOM 3.

I like the news about the Grabber...
Thanks Cort! :D

Re: DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil

Although the Grabber seems to be a bit of a cheat for a game as terrifying as Doom 3, all of this together I believe is going to make yet another wicked extention of the Doom franchise.

Re: DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil

wait wait wait...you play as a different marine? Despite the sweet weapon additions and creatures- that's not cool. Ah but what the hell- guess the change would be more dramatic if the Doom guy ever talked :)

CorT December 30th, 2004 07:56 PM

Re: DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil

yeah, playing as a differnt marine isn't exactly going to alter things. just a differnt face to look at during cutscense.

Re: DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil

The Ghost is back from absence....To add to what you've heard of the expansion my PC Gamer magazine had an article too. I heard of another new monster, known as the "Vulgar". Some weapons now have flashlights attached to them. You get an enviro suit at one point I guess, and sometimes you'll fight against zombies still in their suits, with flashlights on their heads (terrifying  ). I'm not sure if you're so much of a marine as a combat engineer. I have that issue of Game Informer too that has another article. It also had some information on the Xbox version of D3, including some information on its Co-op.

our hero from Doom 3 is well in need of some tlc and recuperation, as far as i am concerned.it only makes sence to play as a new face in the expansion. maybe the backdrop story may have this character and the one played as in the current game as mutual comrades, whom obtained his PDA full of relevant information linked to what unfolded at the end of the game [ personal studies in regards to the advance in teleportation, etc ] with new PDA/personal data/video disks/email recently discovered added.

who knows....the possibilities are endless.

i myself am just looking forward to the return of the double-barrel shotgun. that
with the introduction of new enemies alone is going to be something to look forward to, even if we did play as the same character. the idea of playing as a totally different marine in the expansion pack is refreshing. :D

Agreed. All-in-all, this sounds like something to look forward to. :) Already pre-ordered.

What gets me is that its Been two years, and its on mars, well the UAC on mars was shut down for the tw years, why is it that when ya go back theres Zombies? wouldnt they all be rotten by now? i mean two years....

i wold think they would be bones....:S and its only you and the girl that go... so where do all these zombies come from?

Re: DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil

I personally am not opposed to the role change that we will experience in Resurrection of Evil. As long as the new marine appears (like the one from Doom 3 itself) to be a tough, capable fighter, I am more than satisfied.

i think it would be great [and not to mention progressive as breaking some barriers on Id's part] to play a role as a female marine. I think the sex change in such a fps would be refreshing.

Re: DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil

I don't think that the zombies were still at the base when the come back, were they? I think that finding the articfact opened the gate to hell (again...), and the whole thing sort of started again, with Bertruger trying to take the artifact from the main character...

Re: what is this new doom Roe please ?

Uh, if you're trying to ask what RoE is, its an expansion pack for Doom III, called Resurection (sp?) of Evil. If that's not what you're asking, then I have no idea. Lol.

Re: what is this new doom Roe please ?

Hey Deadeye, yea it's Resurrection of Evil, the expansion for Doom 3. Supposed to take place like 2 or 3 years after the events of Doom 3, and there'll be a few new demons, and supposedly they're bringing back the double barrel shotgun. No definite word on when it get's released, I can only quote id, "it'll be done when it's done." Cheers mate.

Deadeye, RoE does indeed stand for Resurrection of Evil, and it is the Doom 3 expansion pack that takes place two years after the events of Doom 3. There is a good number of new features in the arsenal and the bestairy, which includes the return of the double-barreled shotgun and some new demons. I shall not spoil it for you, but instead leave it up to you to read up on any spoiler information regarding the game (which I have linked in post #17).

Re: DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil

So it has been confirmed !
I am not too sure how many of you have heard of this yet, but i thought i would do those interested in the subject matter a great favour by posting the article directly, via latest news courtest of Doom 3 Portal up-linked from technology & entertainment news on Yahoo.com

Doom 3's 1st expansion pack suitably entitled "Resurrection Of Evil" has been given an official release date. Read on for further details....

Id Software and Activision have officially set the release date for both the DOOM 3 Expansion Pack - Ressurection of Evil - and the DOOM 3 Xbox Version; April 4th, 2005. Here's the press release (found at biz.yahoo.com):
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
"SANTA MONICA, Calif., Feb. 9 -- Make a date with death. id Software(TM) and Activision, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI - News) today confirmed the week of April 4 as the worldwide release of never-ending evil, with the arrivals of both DOOM 3(TM) for the Xbox(R) video game system from Microsoft and DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil(TM), the official PC expansion pack to what critics and gamers have raved is one of the scariest games ever created: DOOM 3(TM).

"Brace yourself for a new breed of fear and excitement," said Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software. "DOOM 3 for the Xbox brings gripping action, unparalleled graphics and sound, and a truly terrifying experience to the home theater. This is DOOM 3 built for the Xbox, including 480p and wide-screen support, full Xbox Live multiplayer, and the Xbox exclusive 2-player co-op campaign. For fans of DOOM 3 on the PC, Resurrection of Evil takes you to the undiscovered depths of the UAC's Mars base and back to Hell itself for a vicious new battle with the forces of evil and the most ferocious demons imaginable."

Rated 10 out of 10 by XBN magazine, DOOM 3 for the Xbox brings the sci-fi horror masterpiece to console gamers everywhere. In addition to the most frightening and immersive single player game ever created, the heart-pounding title features a new co-operative campaign and exciting Xbox Live multiplayer action. DOOM 3 for the Xbox is developed by Vicarious Visions and id Software.

Co-developed by Nerve Software and id Software, DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil continues the terrifying and intense action of the top selling, critically acclaimed and instant classic DOOM 3 -- awarded 94% from PC Gamer and five out of five stars from Computer Gaming World -- in an all-new assault on humanity. Resurrection of Evil picks up two years following the events of the original in a once forgotten and remote UAC research facility on Mars. Players wage a brutal war against an army of new demons and zombies including Hell's own Hunters, while utilizing incredible new weapons like the physics defying "grabber" and the return of the classic double-barreled shotgun. Featuring new locations, puzzles and mysterious powers like the ability to slow time, Resurrection of Evil will have players reloading for the bloodiest battle yet.

My memory fails me...:uhm:

Anyway, I am quite surprised to see id Software actually committing to a release date instead of keeping us under the traditional assumption of "when it's done."

XLove & MutilationX February 10th, 2005 10:27 PM

Re: DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil

well i think the fact that they made a confirmed press release is something we can all be grateful for and that the decision to go ahead to do so instead of making a press release say, maybe a few weeks before they intended to ship the expansion would have been out of place. As much as they have their claws firmly dug into the "its done when its done" attitude, they also are quite fond of the onset of anticipation once an official release date has been given. I think that Id enjoys that sort of attention.

to aid your failing memory Magic... back in mid november i had a "distinct feeling" that we would see the expansion-pack completed and even shipped by the beginning of the spring. this was my prediction.

at this time, i can also share a prediction regarding F.E.A.R and that there will be a delayed release date of 2 months due to technical complications [i.e OpenGL on certain videocards] but there is no need to discuss that here.the relevant good news regarding this thread has been stated :)

Impressive shots those are. :nodding:

I wonder if it will be possible to destroy that monitor dangling around the Bruiser's neck. :p

XLove & MutilationX February 16th, 2005 10:14 AM

Re: DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil

i would think so. a weakness of some sort perhaps, making the bruiser much more vulnerable if/when the monitor can be destroyed...and i noticed that the weapon in use of that screenshot looks like to be the double-barreled shotgun. :naughty:
