Can you use a joypad

I’ve had Doom 3 for a while now and my dad really wants to give it a try. However he’s got bad arthritis in has hands and he can’t use the keys, it hurts his hands too much. Does anyone know if you can use a joypad to play Doom 3? And if so can they recommend one.
