I've been wanting to do some tuts and "scan lines" might be an easy one to do. I use Paintshop Pro, but I think you can figure the differences between programs.

the most simple way make a 5x5 image. Take the pen tool. create new layer Hide background layer zoom in draw a line with the pen tool form one corner to another. ctrl+a uh ... edit ... create new pattern Now you can make a new effects layer>pattern and select your pattern. It's a bit more complex with thicker lines, the difference being you have to fill the outside corners as well.

Well not entirely sure on CS 4. But you have to go to window>show all items>animation. This will open a small frame which holds so called frames. The first frame out to be a blank white canvas, just as your completely new picture. Create a text layer. And you might notice that the first frame got upgraded and now shows the text as well. Create a new frame (not layer). You do this by clicking on the same icon as the new layer one, but on the animation window. In the second frame, just try to move the text around, you will see that only the second frame changes. If you click back to the first one, the text will be on it's original position. If you want the movement to be smoother, you can click on the spleen icon (those small circles on the frame window) Once you animation is done. go to the animation options and click on flatten frames into layers. Once this is done file>save for web and devices>and just select gif. Keep in mind that I'm used to cs2 so if I say something extra, it's just a habit. Otherwise here's a relatively simple web tutorial, albeit for cs3, but I think it will be the same. As cs3 got rid of imageready.CreativeTechs Tips Build Animated GIFs in Photoshop.
