could someone tell me how to get a rid of unwanted backgrounds? example:
Say I had a picture but it was surrounded by a white background. And I wanted to put it ontop of another picture, but the white background still showed? could someone tell me how to fix this? BTW: I Use Gimp.

That's probably one of the harder things to do.
You could use the color selector, select white and delete it, but you will get very jaggy edges.
What most people do, is that they use the path/pen tool and make an outline of the thing you want to get out of the background.
Then make a selection out of the path and there you go.

I have here this Rebel Alliance logo, and want I want to do is make a blue cross through it, write the word 'pwned' under the text and write the name Tyber above it. I don't know which program u guys use, but I use Paint.NET, and I can't manage it myself, well, not with this program.

Something like the first one, but then with a diagonal cross. And the text some graffity style. But i'll try with Gimp then.

Sry for double, but I can't seem to find out how to draw lines...I'm a noob...Actually, I use the paintbrush tool, then make a line, but nothing shows up. Also with gradient turned on. Strange...

put a point on the image. Than Shift than click where you want the line to go

I do that, but the line doesn't show up. I think it lies BEHIND the picture instead of ON it.

I want to know how to make scale lines(I think thats what they are called)

The lines that are thin but add detail to your work and usually go diagonal.
