| i never saw this one before, but i think i can write a quick tut on the subject. some weapons have weird muzzle flashes when they have vents on the sides of the muzzle, but here we will only use the generic flash. most muzzle flashes come in 2 varieties: front and side the front one looks like a starburst pattern, and the side looks like a sideways flame, so in photoshop, create your main shapes using the elliptical selection tool. you can use a gradient with white and yellow if you want. after making your approximate shapes, use your smudge tool to shape them even further, pulling wisps from them away from the muzzle. after that, you can use the transform tool to change the shape even further. this depends on how picky you are, since they will only be seen on one frame. once you're happy with the way they look, place the layer on your animation and create a new layer for the frame where the flash will go and then make sure to adjust the light, shadows and reflections where applicable. if your render is wearing a helmet, a visor or shades, they need to reflect the flash. if your render is standing near a wall, the flash needs to illuminate part of it and your render will cast shadows on other parts. use the transform tool to adjust the angle and the size of the flashes. you can look at my old sig to see how i did it. i even have shells fying out of the gun.
