Default Biohazard Tutorial

In this tutorial you will learn the basic techniques to create a biohazard sign.

You will need:
Photoshop
Knowing how to work with layers

Create a new file

Drag guides to mark the center

Select the eliptical marquee

Create a circular selection (hold shift while dragging) and fill it with black (ALT+ENTER)

Create a smaller selection and move it down. DO NOT shift it sideways

Delete it (BACKSPACE)

Resize it using the transform command (CTRL+T)

Looks like a crescent, huh? This is the template we will use to create the other 2 sides. Duplicate the layer by dragging it into the new layer icon

Select the new layer (CTRL+A) and using the transform command (CTRL+T) rotate it 120 degrees

Press enter to apply the transformation and duplicate the transformed layer.
Then, transform again (SHIFT+CTRL+T) Now, you can see it's almost done.

Create a new layer and make a small circular selection. Fill it with white (CTRL+ENTER)

Now, select the rectangular marquee tool

and create a rectangle that goes from the middle of the small white circle towards the bottom. Make sure it's centered

Looks like a keyhole, huh? Duplicate that layer and transform again just like you did before. You should end up with 6 layers that look like this:

Now, let's merge our layers. Select the topmost black crescent layer and hit CTRL+E twice. That should merge all 3 crescents into one layer. Repeat with the white keyhole layers. You should have now 2 layers: Crescents on one and keyholes on the other.

Hold CTRL and click on the keyholes layer. That will select them. Now, click on the crescents layer and hit BACKSPACE. That should cut a hole in the crescents shaped like the keyholes. Delete the keyholes layer.
Create a new layer and make a circular selection, then stroke it

It should look like this. We're almost done.

Now, hold CTRL and click on the crescents layer to select the crescents, then expand the selection

After doing that, click on the circle layer and hit BACKSPACE

and then CTRL+D and CTRL+E

That's it! Now just resize it and use it in your sigs and avatars.

I'm thinking about making a "The Thing" texture tutorial to be ready for the "Fantastic Four" movie.

Yes, it's very easy. You pretty much create 3 shapes. 2 of them are copied twice and the copies are rotated, then you use the resulting shapes as templates to cut our parts of the other shapes.

Unhappy Re: Biohazard Tutorial

What version of PhotoShop do you have? I am also a noob at ps. But i'm not sure what version everyone else is using. I have PhotoShop CS 8. All the commands you were telling me in the tut didn't work on my version. I AM VERY CONFUSED.
