But winning at any cost is not a victory.

Puerto Rico is a US Protectorate. The official government language of business is English for US government purposes. The currency is the US Dollar. Puerto Ricans born on the island (like yours truly) are granted dual-citizenship. Puerto Rico is represented in Congress by a representative with no voting power, however they can ask to call for votes. Puerto Rico can not vote in US Presidential elections.

There are a few poliitical parties in Puerto Rico. Some want to completely be independent of the United States and become totally independent. This could be a big mistake. There are other parties that want to have Puerto Rico become the 51st state of the Union, a political game that has been tossed back and forth for the last three for four decades, if not longer. Statehood would mean full government programs, government money, government taxes (that's not so good), state government, a full, empowered Congressional Representative and a Senator.

Becoming independent would mean that Puerto Rico would seriously need to expolit its resources (limited) and its tourism business every year to produce a GNP that can stabalize a small island nation. Unfortunately, without US financial backing, I fear PR would fall into social disorder and you would see what happened in Cuba in 1959 happen all over again.

But I digress. Sidious would own Traya. There. I said it.
