Eeemm I think the Tau and Imperial forces have had alliences for brief periods to destroy a greater treat...Not to sure about that, but other than a short allience I don't think there has ever been a long stand allience

It's like Imperial forces fighting with Eldar support against Chaos (check out the last war on Tallarn, when the warp gate was opened).
Same goes for Tau and Imperials, they sometimes ally against a greater threat, but this is quite rare and never lasts long.
Tau tend to expand and claim Imperial planets for their own Empire, this leads to a lot of small scale conflicts spread across the Tau-Imperial border.

But anyway, Tau being Xenos and Humans being the only ones allowed to ever rule the galaxy, those foul creatures must be purged, sooner or later.

That's what I said, sometimes they just have to set their own battles appart to fight a greater foe together. But as soon as that threat is repelled, they get back to fighting each other ^^

Don't you also remeber the part in fire warrior where you kill plenty of guardsmen and imperial guard, I remeber killing a space marine with an autogun, I nearly cried =(

Hive fleet behemoth or kraken or one of the 'Nids is heading in that direction... so the Imperium is hoping that will take care of the Tau.

You're partially right. The following info has been taking straight out of the Tau Codex:

"Members of the Water Caste had established trade agreements with Imperial woorlds on the frontier and exchanges of goods and technology were common."

Further into the Codex tells about the Damocles Crusade, which Wraithcat mentioned. (To Wraithcat) Just to say, you were partially wrong about the part where Imperial forces withdrew. It was only because victory was nearly impossible and Hive Fleet Behemoth was moving towards the Tau Empire.
I guess Behemoth was destroyed, but now the Tau has to deal with splinter fleets of Kraken.

P.S. Fire Warrior sucked. It took a ton of pulse rifle shots just to kill a Guardsman, when it should've only taken a couple.

anyway about imperial guard and space marines working together there is distrust between them. being that space marines commanded IG squads at point in time.
