I wouldn't say Vista sucks for gaming, it is just that it is an unnecessary upgrade if you don't already have it.
Microsoft billed it as the "must have for serious gamers". Only problem is...dx10 is so ill-implemented all they have done so far is cripple the same effects in dx9, make the effects "dx10 only". These missing effects can be implemented through hacks & configs.
Take for instance, GEARS OF WAR. All they did was add anti-aliasing in dx10. WTF? A standard setting in dx9 games & its all of a sudden dx10 exclusive?
All my Crysis ultra high setting shots were taken with hacked configs.
If you already have windows XP, I wouldn't worry about it, since the next microsoft os is a few years off & dx10 has offered nothing new in terms of performance or implementation.
