Default My Crysis Review

I claim this section... *WARNING, POTENTIAL SPOILERS*

Well now that i've said that i'll get on with the rants and review...

1) I hate how you can't destroy docks, in the game you can destroy basicaly anything wood related, but you can't blow docks to peices? It doesn't destroy gameplay but it's a little thing i found odd and quite pestering.

2) Aliens.... Fighting the aliens is pretty fun, but honestly, how many of you have swore outloud because of those damn instant kills they can get. I've found this to be the biggest drawback, which isn't saying much when compared to how awesome the actual game is, although this kind of ruined a good 4% of the game for me since grabbing them is almost useless since they'll either kill you instantly or fly to the side, and meleeing them is also out of the question since there so damn fast...

3) Weapons... The weapons are great, but i really hate the emphasis they put on you with the whole "Use your enemy's weapons", mainly because i really hate AK's, the way they sound, feel, and look. I mean, couldn't your guys give you a couple ammo drops in the game like in halo, GOW, and GRAW2, i mean it didn't have to be ammo drops but it could've been something like a resupply truck or something, sure there was the 3rd level where it had that secured postion and all that ammo for you SCAR and such, but that was only ONE time, for about 4 or 5 levels till you reach another, and the second one didn't help because you go through the ammo like mad if you try to take down the aliens with your SCAR, i mean i often found myself, if not always, waiting and watching for my guys to die or get mowed down by the turrets or soldiers and than i'd have to speed dash over there, get there ammo, and speed dash away before i got my ass handed to me. Well now since it's more of a warzone there should be more types of "Resupply" areas in the 2nd one hopefully.

4) Rendered textures, this isn't a big thing for console people since they know what it's like to play a game and suddenly there's a really poorly rendered texture at first but than it jumps up to being fully rendered, but on a PC, there's no excuse for it, ESPECIALY since it happens constantly throughout the entire game with bushes and trees, and even vehicles. With the highly advanced graphics and engine in this game i expected more. This dropped the gameplay down another 3% for me.

5) This is a on a certain level, specificaly when you reach Prophet after the huge Ice wave blasts everything. When your killing the aliens to protect prophet, sometimes the aliens deaths don't register or they freeze in mid air, and no matter how many times you shoot them they still don't register as beign dead so this will cause you to go back and save frequently until you get it right... For me, this brought the game down a good 3%, in quality and gameplay.

In a game like this i would expect a HELL of alot more than this, but they did work hard on it, overall i was dissappointed with these things with the added on bonus factor of the pre-alpha gameplay being a *Fake* or *toned down* so everyone was hyped up but than they got a toned down, slightly glitchy version of the game and our hearts sank. What i was hoping for wasn't met, but what i got was still really amazing and still pretty impressive.

The game offers an immense amount of exploration and alot of open endedness, mixed with the awesome physics, realistic environments, and spectacular long range veiw, it makes a pretty sick game. And although the outer shell of the gameplay is great, the inner core is where it shines too, and what i mainly mean by this is how it delivers without you knowing it, still confused? Here i'll tell you. The AI, you may not be thinking about "Wow, this AI is great, it's so realistic and awesome" right in the middle of a huge firefight, mainly the only thing coursing through your mind is "SHOOT SHOOT KILL KILL", but if you really look at it, the AI is quite amazing, when you start to get shot at by the enemy and turn invisible you can distinctly see the look of confusion and then them helplessly start spraying around themselves. Or when you grab the enemy and throw them off an edge, they'll respond by waving there arms but mixed with the slight ragdoll that comes into play it creates an overrall sense of you actualy being able to see how they would actualy re-act to being thrown off, say, a cliff edge, or down a hill. The effects, the motion blur mainly comes to mind when you think of effects but it's much more than that, theres the rainbow effect for water, sparks, light rays, and even smoke, from a grenade lets say will move in the direction that the wind blows. And finaly the dynamicity, like crytek said, every time you play a mission it will never be EXACTLY the same because of how dynamic the AI is and how it will respond.

my overrall score would be a 9.25 out of 10 i guess. If you have not bought this game yet, do so, if you don't have the machine to run it, go out and buy one! This game isn't your average FPS and feels alot like the soul sequel to farcry (and yes i know they are making a Farcry sequel, i'm just trying to make a point), you really will be begging for more after you beat this game, but as for right now, Crytek is working on patches to further enhance our ejoyability for the game so many already love. You can Expect news for the sequel sometime by mid 2008...

Here are some Screens to give you a good idea of what you can expect the game to be like.

Here's a screenshot of my settings on my PC, which you can see the specs for in my Sig.

I got about 20-25 FPS which is smoother than some of you may think.

Here are just some screens showing off the graphics:

Here's a picture of the AI doing it's part by *blind firing*, and please note that the cloaking wore off just as i took the screenshot, which you can tell because it says CLOAK DISABLED on the bottom, so it's not that the AI is glitchy, it's just that i took the screenshot at a bad time :P

I've had this game for a week now and i'm still immensely enjoying it, so that's definately a sign of longevity, which is very important in a game. It appeals to both the stealth genre fans aswell as the hardcore action FPS shooters much like myself. It also can appeal to younger ages since there is little amounts of blood and virtualy no gore, this game definately appeals to almost everyones taste and deserves a nice spot on your gaming shelf.
