New, some questions re mods

Hi , I have just re installed ( used to play vanilla CoH a few years back)
and I have used Opposing fronts to install, ( I also have brought and registered talses of valour) it seems to patched me up to all versions ( I have the tales of valour campains available in the menu)

So, my question is, what mods can I use on this install ? Are all the maps you download useable on my install?

What are the best mods to use?

Finally, I see from a brief read of the instructions on some of the mods, that the method of installing involves adding text to the command line. What happens if you want run more than one mod? ( there do seem to be hundreds to choose from) Can you only run one at a time, or are they generally compatible and you just add a string of mod texts as required?

I play Arma2 and this game has a similar system which seems to work very well.

I just dont want to screw up my nice fresh install.

Thanks, mark

Re: New, some questions re mods

You can have multiple mods installed to one copy of the game, but you can't run multiple mods at the same time. If you try, it simply won't work. Tales of Valor is the latest expansion, however it isn't the latest game version. ToV would have brought your game up to v2.500, but you still have to patch your game up to the latest version which is v2.601.

Good mods that come to mind are Battle of the Bulge, Eastern Front, Blitzkrieg, Cross of Iron, Back to Basics: Battle of the Hedges, and Normandy 44. All of these are compatible with v2.601, and may not work with earlier versions of the game (so be sure to patch your game up!).

Just like mods, many maps will only run on the game version they were made with, so there is a good chance that older maps won't work, especially those that use scripting. I advise you to avoid places like Filefront's CoH Files site, as they host many old maps and mods, and usually don't mention what version of the game the files are for. Try looking for mods at ModDB, and mods and maps at sites like the RelicNews CoH forums.
