Unable to patch - registry problem.

Default Unable to patch - registry problem.
So my friend just brought me Company of Heroes today and I cannot patch it at all... The game installs smoothly but when I go to apply any patch I get an error stating "Unable to locate game in windows registry" and the patching utility just closes.
Is this a common error and how do I fix it? I already tried reinstalling the game and reapplying patches and it doesn't work! I have a valid copy of the game to it was purchased at best buy. Although the game includes a cd key it does not include a retail copy key. Could this be a problem?

go to my documents, my games, Company of Heroes, then patch and run the one you need

i fixed it though. You need to get the version two patches and manually add some registry entries.
