What the hell is happening to the community??

This whole Battatta/InFUSION saga has opened up many many many cans of worms with people fighting and bitching and arguing.

There are whole threads over at DeeZire about InF4 and the theft of copyrights etc. The community spirit has taken a hammering.

What do people think about this situation? What can we do to put things right? gamingforums seems to have got a bad reputation from hosting Battatta's work.

Your thoughts people, will be appreciated. :feedback:

Well, I for one don't condone what Batata did. But the resulting mod (inFusion 4.1) is fantastic. Its my number 1 mod at the moment. :stallard:

The above link will take you to the thread where I conducted a pilot study for my upcoming psychology experiment on "Virtual interaction on the net". The whole "Batata saga" was perfect as the stimulus :D

My only problem with how Battata conducted the mod was that he didn't not give people their due credit. He used patchwork pieces of other peoples mods (which is fine, everyone does this) but he then gave no credit to the original "creators" of that work. Keyword is creators, as in the people that modeled, skinned and boned the units. If a simple acknowledgement had been made to all the resources that he used then I highly doubt that so much bad publicity would have resulted. And he was not in anyway the first to make a patchwork mod like this, there were several people to make minor mods that were just like this before infusion came out. The difference was that they acknowledge that they took parts from other mods.

Not sure I agree. Most ppl who attacked battatta did so because he, and I quote, "Ripped off other people's mods" . I don't think a minor credit would appease those people who were baying for blood.

He also, I believe, bypassed LOFS security system to gain access to their units. Is that not a definition of hacking??

I agree with General_Ari. I actually got a look at that mod, and I have to say it is the largest, most comprehendsive mod for generals out there. I don't think we'll see anything that will top it for a while. People seem to get so caught up in the whole 'copywrite of my mod' issues, when they forget that they don't really hold much copywrite to it. By definition of it being a mod for another game, EA holds most of the copywrites to this stuff. Besides, whatever happend to the caring, sharing modder community?

BTW what is LOFS?

thnx man. I was an early member of starcraft-2 before i had to get ready for college and all and i kinda didn't have time btu i'm new here. thnx and i'll read it up and see what is being talked bout.
