A really obvious anachronism!

Did it strike anybody as odd that in a game as terrific by any standards as COH is, that old Dieter is huddled in his cold foxhole with Franz bitching about his lukewarm coffee and says to his companion, "Your coffee sucks!" Do you think anybody in the world was using that kind of language in those days, let alone the Germans? I think not, and the good people at Relic Entertainment should have known better. What were they thinking. Clearly, in this case, they were not. Don't get me wrong, This is arguably, the best WWII RTS I've ever seen. I come away from it shaking each time I play a campaign, but for all the research they should have paid more attention to the teensy little details, don't you think?

In the army, rough language was and still is really common.

If you think that soldier's on the same side talk to eachother like they are gentlemen in a coffee house, then you're wrong.

Especially when there is a fight going on, the regular soldier's wouldn't stay calm so if someone said: "Shoot you'r dam rifle!" Then the other would say like: "G** damit can't you see I'm pinned down!".

In the army is no place for weak people, trust me. If you start to hate your buddies only because you believe in god and they say alot g** dam (which they do alot), then they will just laugh at you.

Really, insulting in war is common.

You can say what you want, but EVERY human who will be in a fight will curse or insult.

And that coffee thing is just a little joke, but those things really happened though.

OK, talk about not having a clue! First to Mr. Testicle w/legs, let me reply by saying a couple of things. First, it's obvious that someone who bills himself with such a moniker doesn't have any room for a brain cell or two. My comment had NOTHING whatsoever to do with the quality of 1944 coffee. As for me "getting some", I believe you're referring to me getting some testicles, I can assure you that I had a rather substantial pair long before you were even born. Believe it or not, I've actually done something with my life. I served my country (the USA), in uniform, both overseas and stateside, in and out of combat zones for over 20 years, and retired with distinction as an officer with a nice fat pension. That ought to give me some cred that you clearly do not have. And, you little pimple on the ass of humanity, I've actually made other contributions to society that you cannot even begin to match. So keep your trite little comments to yourself.

And for both of the responders to my posting, please look up the word "anachronism" so you'll know what it means. It has nothing to do with rough language. As a "vet" who came up through the ranks from private E-1, I am quite familiar with rough language. I dare say there's not much I haven't heard or used in my lifetime. Doesn't anybody get that nobody used the term "sucks" in 1944. It just wasn't part of the vernacular of the day. Oh God!, I've used another big word. This should send some of the readership of on another tangent. But just to make sure, go ask your mommies and daddies if anybody they knew used the word "sucks" in their vocabulary in everyday usage. I already know the answer. Because I know when I first started washing my kids mouth out for using it. Of course, I got over long ago but that's another story.

For those of you who go off half-cocked, please do me a favor. Read through my posting, consider fully what it is that I've said, do a bit of research and then post a considered response. I'll always consider a thoughtful counterpoint but if you're just trying to blow smoke up my ass or lay some bogus crap on me, I will blow you out of the water. Fair enough!

I believe "sucks" was never used in those days as much as today.

From all the WWII movies and books i have read, none of them said "sucks or sucked"

Dude take it easy, sucks was used.

The word was already known by then, if you don't then search on google or so for us when the word was used for the first time.

It was just a standard word the American's, UK'ers, Australians, Canadians etc. used.

Really, if you search when it was first used and you really find it you shall probably see it.

I take a dim view of a Dutchman telling me what American words were in common usage in 1944. Yes, the words "suck" and "sucks" were quite common and used in speech in everyday conversation. What they were not, was used in American slang. And since American has never been the strong suit of any foreign national, I think you should know whereof you speak before engaging your response mechanism. In short, shut up until you know what you're talking about. The usage of the word "sucks" in the context of this game as used by the German soldier is inapproriate and out of place an if I knew how to take a poll of people who knew something about the way language evolves, I would do so to prove my point. By rave on, if it makes you happy.

You want to solve the problem look the word "sucks" up in a german dictionary then an English dictionary. Make sure its a good one with dates of common usage within them and such. They are not accurate to the date....but within a decade or so. See if the word sucks was in the vernacular of the 1940's era. If not.......the vet wins.... if yes then a fight to the death is merited....
