I had the same problem i have vista home premium i went through heck to get it to work, the solution where as you have to put headphones into the mic jack is true, and also a major thing in order to get multiplayer to work is that you have to turn off your internet security im not sure if that includes windows defender but if you have trend or something like that shut it off, plug in a pair of headphones into the pink input (microphone) and it should work after that

THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!! i couldnt get my Multiplayer working for anything. i tried everything they told me to do like update my sound card drivers and install the latest patches just EVERYTHING didnt work until i saw your post and at first i thought that this wasnt gonna work because it just sounds retarded and i was soo surprised when i realized that it worked. just thanks though without this post i wouldve never been able to play online
