COD4 problem: no servers show up! plz help
 

so i just recently acquired internet access and decided to patch and play COD4 multiplayer. I've installed all the patches i could find on file front and every time i boot the game into multiplayer, no servers show up in the matchmaking lobby.

ive tried running as administrator(a common issue with Vista) but to no avail. i really like COD4 and cant wait to play it online so if anyone has a solution please share your knowledge!

Sounds daft but have you selected the source as the internet and hit refresh list ?
If so then you will probably be your ports that are not open on your router.
Go here PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall and follow the instructions for your router / modem.

okay i figured that i would dive further into the problem because it is really starting to frustrate and confuse me given this being the first time i started using wireless internet.

so currently im using Netgear's WPN111 USB wireless adapter 2.0 to pick up wireless internet from my downstairs neighbor. signal strength is fair 100% of the time and web surfing is as fast as a wired broadband connection. im experiencing issues with COD4 and punkbuster as far as port numbers and firewalls are concerned. being that my computer runs vista ultimate and has for the past 6 months with no real problems, my firewall doesnt alert me of either programs being blocked so i doubt that is the case. however i have a feeling that i need to configure some other information on my wireless settings. ive tried to look up my adapter's port forwarding information but that particular model is not listed on Portforward.com

any more assistance in the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Errm does he know your using his internet?
Again you need to find the router **Not the adapter** But as its not your router you will have to ask and get permission to open the port on the **Router**
If you don't have permission then there in nothing you can do except get your own internet connection.

yeah he knows im using it and its not a security protected connection so will i still be able to enter his routers information? and if so all of this works out (hopefully) will the strength of my adapter be able to support COD?

Yes you should be fine through wireless. My connection is wireless and I have never had a problem with it. But you will need to get into the routers settings to open the port range.

I had a similar experience after patching COD4 from 1.6 to 1.7, I no longer had any servers in my list. It turns out this is related to the Windows Firewall.

To fix it:

Remove the COD4 and PunkBuster from the Windows firewall and re-add them.

C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\iw3mp.exe
C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\cod4.exe
C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\PB\PnkBstrA
C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\PB\PnkBstrB

This will add the latest version of the executable.

i tried everything but i think that you have to configure the router, and open up the ports whit portforewording, i want to do that but there is a adminstrator and he doesnt want me to the M#@!!!T@#$$$!!F
