Talking MP data transfer

Hi all, hope someone can help me with this question. My son and i have both been playing COD4 on the same machine . Recently I bought him his own Pc and a new copy of COD4 problem is we're both 5 stars and have most weapons maxed in our profiles . The question is, is it possible to copy and paste his mp_data file to the new machine using the new copy of COD4 or is the profile tied to the CD key ? Thanks in advance for any help

well, I personally have never tried this, but from what I've heard on a few other sites, the mpdata file IS dependent on the cd key. You could send the file over to the new computer, but then you would have to change the cd key for the new comp to that of the old comp. You'll both still be able to play the game, but you won't be able to play online at the same exact time.

If you want to go ahead with this, For Windows Vista: Go to Start > and type regedit then hit enter.
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Activision > Call of Duty 4
Find the entry codkey and double click on it

For XP, do the same but go to Start > Run and type regedit then hit enter. Then do the rest the same way.

I'd go ahead and copy and paste the key you see into notepad just for safety reasons. Next, you're going to replace that key with the old key. Now, I've heard you can close regedit and later replace the replacement key with the one you put in notepad and still have the old mpdata file in their and everything will be fine, but like I said, I personally have never tried this.

I wish you and your son the best of luck

Thumbs up Re: MP data transfer

Frieden your right with that . I have been in touch with Punkbuster and they told me that the MP data file is tied to the CD key but, they also advised me to get in touch with Activision for further assistance, so I have. I'll update this thread incase anyone else has the same question....Again Frieden thanks for the reply atleast you were willing to answer this question

There is a program where you can "Back up your ranks". You can get it from
HERE

Probably would just have to " slide" the cdkey's profile into it when done.

Merrick thanks for the reply, I had thought that this was a non-flyer the programme worked and it created the backup. Although there is one thing can you explain how to "slide the CD key" . I would really hate to loose my profile and start over
P.S. sorry for the delay replying
regards
Hilts
