MP screen black out I'm sure this has probably been brought up before, but I couldn't find the thread I thought I'd seen. When I hit join server it proceeds as normal until it reaches the splash screen for whatever map is currently up, then after about 0.5 a second of that screen it just grays out, the game is still running, but it won't go anywhere. I tried the old trusty rebooting and reinstalling the game once. I was able to join MP games after reinstalling the game, only once. When I returned to play again the same problem. ? I'm running with a nVidia Fx 5500, 1GB mem, 3.2 Ghz pentium IV processor and with Win XP Media Center. I already checked my drivers. |
Re: MP screen black out xp media center?? your machine specs sound ok to run on LOW settings--- but im not familiar with this xp media center thing---you might need to change some settings in that to get to work--- how do all your other games play? |
Re: MP screen black out I'm actually running on the upper mid range settings, and my other games have no problems at all that I've noticed. |

Re: MP screen black out I have "exactly" the same problem as iff_delta. When i've clicked on a server to join, its starts to load, hits the splash screen and then just goes black and throws a wobbler, no error mesage or nothing. It started happening the same way too. At first mp was fine n' dandy, then it started the black screen thing. To get it working again I had to do a complete re-install of COD2 even though sp was still working. Now its happened again and i'm gonna have to re-install it (again) :( Even though mp is messed up, sp works perfectly. I can run it @ 1024x768, Dx9, graphics settings maxd out with anistropic filtering and x2 AA and still get a decent framerate with no crashes or freezes, so no problems there. The only changes I made to COD2 was install some sp mods: wcp_realism, wcp_tracer and a blood mod. I've even tried removing all mp and sp mods, but the problem is still there, (perfect modded sp, but messed up mp). Oh, the only other thing I changed was set "hunkmegs to 512mb" for both sp and mp, sp seems happy with it. Plus, when I re-installed COD2 again it had saved the old "hunkmegs config" and mp worked, so its not changing the hunkmegs thats causing the problem. So, maybe the problem is either a bug with COD2 (hopfully a patch will sort it) or the mods are causing or have caused the problem. the sp and mp mods I use are very popular, but this problem dosn't seem that popular, so maybe it not the mods... i dunno... I've never had a problem with COD or UO like this before. If anyone else has this problem, post an let us know, it may very well be a bug within COD2. My Specs: Win XP sp2, 3.6ghz P4, Ati x8oo xt platinum, 1gb corsair twinx, abit IC7-MAX3 mobo, creative audigy 2. |
Re: MP screen black out iff_delta have u installed any mods or played with your mp config at all??? If you havn't then i'll know it might not be the sp mods I use. |
Re: MP screen black out I've found out what the problem is.. :) I thought i'd try loading mp an again just to see if i could join a server. I got the same black screen again, so (just out of curiosity) i pressed the console key just to see if it'd work (and it did) so COD2 wasn't frozen. I typed in "killserver" to take me back to the title screen, and what should be waiting for me but a nice helpful error message: "unpure client detected. invalid IWO files referenced! C:\ program files\activision\ call of duty 2\ main\ iw_06.iwd. So, i copied the file "iw_06.iwd" from my cod2 installation dvd, pasted it into the the main folder in the cod directory, started multiplayer, joined a server an Bingo!! it worked... :) Quite what had corrupted the iw_06.iwd file im not sure.... Hmmm Only my third post and ive solved a problem (i hope) :) I'm a bit pleased with myself now.. |
Re: MP screen black out Cool, I'll try that out, I got back today and read your posts thanks. |
Re: MP screen black out Delta, if you do try the way I solved the problem could post here just to let me know it worked please. And if its possible, could you say if it was the iw_06.iwd file that was sausing the problem?? i'm just curious.. |
Re: MP screen black out Yes, I did exactly what you suggested and it works great now. The iwd_06 file is the file which contains the COD2 sound files. I like to modify my sounds, and with the unmodified version it works. |
