Default Re: Pb Init Faillure????

This is a network problem - PB needs to constantly stream info from your pc to a PB server. If it can't, you'll be kicked with 1 of 2 error messages: PB INIT FAILURE or NO PACKET FLOW. It doesn't necessarily mean its a network problem at your end. It may well be (and usually is) the server's problem

POSSIBLE FIX

There are several things you can try.

1. Do a manual update of pb. Download pbweb.exe (link given in a minute), place it in your pb folder and run it from there.

Find pbweb.exe here:

http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=updatepb.php

2. Join a server but spectate (if you join and make a kill or get killed you will be kicked). Now drop down console and type these commands:

/pb_sv_enable
/pb_cl_enable
/pb_security 0
/pb_system 1

The most important one is the security one. This turns off (completely legitimate) a recently introduced pb security feature (see below under INFO) which prevents pb being able to downgrade your version of PB in order to pull it into line with the version of PB running on the server you are on.

INFO ON THE PROBLEM

Lots of people get this commonest of error message with PunkBuster.

As I said, there are several causes of this error - most of them network problems. PB needs to constantly communicate with your pc while you are on a server. If it cannot do this, it will kick you with this error message.

Sometimes it is a bad connection to your pc from the server you are on. This may be due to the location of the server, or it may be that the server is struggling to cope with the amount of players on it at any one time. If the processing power of the server cannot cope with all the players on it, then PB cannot keep track of all the data it needs to fulfil its role. Hence, it will kick you with this message.

Sometimes it is because your ISP is giving you trouble, and your packet flow isn't all it should be. If this happens, then PB cannot stream your player-specific information to the PB servers, and you will be kicked with this error message (or the other PB error message: BAD PACKET FLOW).

Othertimes, it is because the server you are on hasn't updated PB recently and you see a message saying 'Server running older version of PB'. When this happens, PB will attempt to downgrade your PB version to compensate for this. Most often as not it cannot do this, as PB has recently introduced a security feature that actaully prevents this happening (there was a well known multihack that exploited this feature of PB compenstating for older versions, and Evenbalance took the process out to stop it).
