framerates 9800 pro
 

Hey ive got an upgrade from an nvidia fx 5200 to an ati 9800 pro. It really did make a difference. I can really run cod at 1280 with everything pretty muched set up to highest. When i play during a lan game just by myself i get constant 91 fps but then online they sometimes go down round 70s sometimes 60s and ive even gotten to 50s. I wonder if getting to 50s with 9800 pro with a high resolution is normal or is there something wrong with it. I also want to know if a shitty ass connection will make your framerates change constantly if you have an unconsistant ping. If you have the same vid card please tell me about your cod performance with it. I just want to know if it is performing alright.

By the way my system specs are the following:
2.6 ghz hyper threading, 80 gig hd, 128 ATI 9800 pro i believe with the latest catalyst drivers, 512 ddr ram

Well im on dial up and have shitty 128mb RAm and highest fps i get is 30, normally round 15-20. (Yes i know new comp time, buying soon)
So consider yourselgfs lucky :lol:

lol 15-20 i used to get that back with my nvidia geforce fx 5200 inside the bushes in brecourt. Then i reinstalled xp and the fps went slightly a little higher. But now with my pro im so happy im just wondering if it is giving the performance it should

I have an ASUS 9800XT 256Mb and I run the game at 1600x1200 all maxed out, FSAA and AF at 4x. I`m sure you could crank it a bit more, or turn on FSAA and AF, as 9800`s are really good cards dealing with these options. Plus you get the eye candy...I sometimes reach over 200+ FPS, sometimes it goes down to below 80, but I average 100+ that`s for sure...:D

Some servers put a FPS cap on so that everybody can enjoy Average fps. If me and a friend are play SOF2, we increase the FPS to max. If a whole bunch of us are playing then we turn it down. Some games that use .con files for configuration can be tweaked. You can actually adjust the FPS window. I forgot which game I was playing ( I think UT 2003 )but, I was getting a minimum of about 160FPS a maximum of 370 ISH and an average of 200 or something ridiculus like that. I have a 9600 PRO card. Yes I always run at 1152 X 768 with near full settings on everything too.

I have a ATI 9800Pro along with an AMD64 3400+ and I am hitting an average of 200fps as well. Some maps I'll notice a drop to below 100, but just in spots and not continuously. I run at 1280x1024 (my LCD monitor native resolution).

I adjusted my configMp.cfg file to read: seta com_maxfps "200". I have an LCD with a refresh at 70..so if I set that too high I get a skip or 2...so I notched it down a bit.

I also use Omega drivers...they seem to help some as well.

I noted that you mentiond hyperthreading....if you look at the COD Technical FAQ, the game does not take advantage of this.

Isn't it like that your eyes can't see more than 30 FPS?

It`s true in cinema, because there is a motion blur effect between frames, but for gaming it`s a different thing. We discussed this a lot on Lock On forums. Some US fighter pilots seem to be able to distinguish much higher frames then we could imagine. I don`t remember how much, but it was pretty high...

Well so you all think my framerates are alright or that they should be higher than that. I still play lagless so it is not a big problem but i kind of like having a high framerate and see how well my vid card performs

Humm I think it could actually be a bit higher...9800 are extremely good cards. Even if it`s a 128mb, there shouldn`t be that big of a difference with the 256mb.


One question: did you remove all previous nVidia drivers properly?

Also: when changing hardware, it is recommended to do a fresh O/S re-install. You might have some left overs from your previous card in the registry or elsewhere...That`s what I do...

Ill reinstall windows xp again sometime and see if that fixes the small problem. I also think the fps should be a little higher

I agree to do a clean install...but I've also used Driver Cleaner. It does a great job of getting rid of old drivers. http://www.driverheaven.net/cleaner/

You can also, in the game, go above the 85fps the game is set on as default. Edit your config_mp.cfg file ...the line seta com_maxfps "85" to what you want it to be. You might have to mess with it a bit...I have mine set at 250. Depends on the card and monitor refresh rate.

True that. I guess ill just reinstall xp. I also just got a new virus in my computer,a worm, and cant seem to find the pathc to remove it in symantec. I truly think that my computer deserves a much higher rate thatn what i get. AT least if i have it set at 85 i should stay 91 fps the whole time maybe drop down to 80 but not less thatn 75.

Well actually this is the MAXIMUM framerates you can reach, it`s blocked there. So like Hulahal said, try putting it at 200-250, to see how high it will go...It is possible that you go lower, as this is just the max it will display...I have mine set to 400, and sometimes I get 70 fps, depending of the map/situation I`m in...

I definatly recommend a clean XP install, as nothing runs like brand new...;)

Come back to us when done and tell us how high you reached...
