1.3 installation error-

Hello,

I recently had to reformat my hard drive due to a virus and I have reinstalled COD, nom i'm trying to install the 1.3 patch for cod and every time i get an error that reads,

pak0.pk3 is not a valid previous version and could not be upgraded

I've even tried to install 1.2 first but i get the same error. I asked activision for help with this matter, but they seem to keep giving me the run around, telling me to try a different link to the patch, or try installing the patch with no app. running, or even to update my video card. Sounds like a bunch of bs to me and that they dont have a clue what to do. If anyone has encountered this problem or has any idea how to fix it please let me know.

Thank you for any help possible
Pezzy

I know it sounds lame, but did you install any mods or something like those? Cuz pk3 is mostly mod related. If so I advise you to uninstall those.

But if that isn't the problem then I advise to just reinstall cod again.

Do what Nighteyes suggests, but if was you, I'd uninstall the CoD, then delete the Call Of Duty Folder, so then you have no custom maps or mods, then try reinstalling CoD and the v1.3 patch. Hopefully that should solve the problem. Then and only then, install the custom maps and mods.

Hey guys, just so you know, there were no custom mods or maps installed before, this is a fresh install he's talking about that won't update. We've tried reinstalling and we've tried activision, we've basically tried almost everything...if anybody knows how to correct this problem, please respond to this post

First of all thank you for your replies, but like green said this is a fresh install with no mods on a reformatted hard drive, so there are absolutely no mods. Tried unistalling and reinstalling, but still no luck. I've got no idea whats goin on, if any was has any other ideas please post..

Try a manual install:
1) Insert CD1.
2) Double-click on the My Computer icon.
3) Right-click on the CD-ROM drive that disc 1 is in and select Explore.
4) Open the Setup\Data folder.
5) Go to the menu at the top and select Edit > Select all. All files should be highlighted.
6) Go to the menu at the top and select Edit > Copy.
7) Make a new folder where you want the game to be installed.
8) Open this folder and go to the menu at the top and select Edit > Paste. The files should be copying over.
9) After the files are done take out disc 1 and put in disc 2.
10) Go back to My Computer and right-click on the CDROM drive that disc 2 is in and select Explore.
11) On disc 2 open the Setup\Data\Main folder.
12) Go to the menu at the top and select Edit > Select all.
13) Go to the menu at the top and select Copy.
14) Open the folder that you are installing the game to and open the Main folder within.
15) Go to the menu at the top and select Edit > Paste. The files should be copying over.
16) Once the files are done copying the game will be installed.
17) You can now make shortcuts to the Codmp.exe and Codsp.exe executables that are located in the root directory where you copied the files to.
18) Codmp.exe is used to launch Multiplayer and Codsp.exe is used to launch Singleplayer.

p.s. If it asks if you want to overwrite any files click "yes"

Please note that the first time you play the Multiplayer portion of the game you will need to enter your CDKEY. Go to the Multiplayer Options menu to enter the Key.

Re: 1.3 installation error-

try a fresh install with installing all the previous patches in the correct order. the patches build off of one another and as far as i understand u have to have the previous ones before getting the more recent ones.
