Lan and Serials C&C 3

I bought C&C 3 plus Kane's Wrath a while back and I wanted to LAN the game between two computers in my home. However when I try to get the computer to join, It says that one or more of the serial numbers detected are already in use. I understand the need for protection to keep copies from going everywhere, but I can't even connect two of my own computers offline.

Is there a legal solution to bypass this test for LAN connections, outside of having to go out and buy another copy.
