Default Generals on Windows seven

I am currently running the windows 7 RC (32bit) and will soon be going onto 64bit home premium.
The RC is very similar to the end product (I don't know the differences if any) The trouble I'm having is that every CnC will work apart from Generals. I have tried turning off UACS and running as Administrator. I read that this game will work on Win 7 however i have still not managed to do so, anyone know how to get it to work/ things worth trying?

cheers in advance, Tris

well, idk about Win7, but for Vista (Win7 consists of the same kernal and framework as Vista) CnC: Generals has some issues with reading the DVD properly and therefore wont install it. It's been months since I last read about it, there is a fix however. I remember the guy talking about making a copy of the file that is unreadable (ironically i believe it's just a .ini file) on Vista and using that copy to fill the gap. Sorry, I forgot the details once I saw all the troubles involved to get that CnC disgrace working. Just give it a Google, there's sure to be answers out there.

yah, best of luck on your search. And if you hate Vista, idk why in the world you'd goto Win7. Despite all the chatter, Win7 = Vista SP2 + pretty gui, minus certain built in vista features.

Seven should need the same edits as vista
Generally this is all you need to do.

Let's just say Generals are just sloppilly coded in some areas.

Also win7!=vista. Just as winXP!=win2000. Even though both are a stepping in the corner.
People put too much worth to the GUI and ignore under the hood stuff. I also fail to understand how anyone can like XP after using vista or seven for some time. I can't return to that fossil anymore.

go into the data folders in ur documents and put in:

folders:
Maps
MapPreviews
Save
Replays

files (start as .txt files and change them to .ini files):
options.ini
Skirmish.ini
SkirmishStats.ini
If just creating the files won't help, try googling what to put into options.ini. I don't remember all that well anymore.

just a little sloppily coded? Being generous are we . Also yeah, XP is hard to return to, once you've made the transition to Vista SP2. There's more security and it handles hardware resources more efficiently, for those that didn't know. Sorry to say it, Microsoft did a good job....for once. I believe you are correct about the files though. Wish I would have bookmarked the site where they detailed the steps necessary to get Generals on Vista/Win7.
