C&C: Generals - Difficulties I'm having difficulties running Command and Conquer Generals on my machine and EA Games really hasn't been of much assistance so I'm broadening my search to people who actually know what the hell they are talking about. This is what happens: I install the program, it installs fine. I then go to run the program and it brings up the intro design (as with most games) but then it just goes away and doesn't load the game. In most games the screen would flicker, a sign of changing resolutions, and then pull up the game. In this case, nothing happens, the intro screen comes up, last a couple seconds and then goes away. Go glitch, no error, no application running. Just gone. I have no idea what the problem is. Thinks to keep in mind: I know the C&C: Generals CDs are good, I tried them on an old worthless labtop and the game actually ran (even if slowly and glitchy). So the CDs aren't a problem. In addition, I have played countless other games on this system with no difficulties, games such as: Spell Force, Never Winter Nights, Rome: Total War, Theif: Deadly Shadows, Civilization 3, Warcraft 3, and Homeworld. System Information: Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 1 Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz (2 CPUs), ~3.0GHz Memory: 1024MB RAM DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) Graphics Card: Card name: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5900XT Chip type: GeForce FX 5900XT Display Memory: 128.0 MB Drives Drive: E: Model: LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-812S Drive: F: Model: LITE-ON COMBO SOHC-5232K |

Re: C&C: Generals - Difficulties One other thing I should mention. This is an entirely legal copy of the game. It's not pirated, cracked, or hacked in any way. |
Re: C&C: Generals - Difficulties Did you try reinstall? Also make sure you have around 1.55GB of files in your Generals folder. Some may be missing and that may cause the problem. |
Re: C&C: Generals - Difficulties Tried installing mutliple times and have even reformated my computer in order to clear Windows XP updates to see if there would be a possible conflict there. Nothing. Confusing I say. It'll drive me to drink if I don't get it figured out! |
