Whats up with this game? *posted this earlier but got deleted for some reason* Hey peeps, i'd like some comment on the following. We often have clan-lan parties and one of our favorit games is C&C Generals. We all have reasonable systems, varying from 2 ghz to 3 ghz. However when we multiplayer the game with 8 players, well the beginning is good but once everybody starts getting 50+ units the game is going so slow that i can attack someone, take a pee, get a beer, fry some potatoes and when i come back their still not there!, very annoying. C&C zero hour simply quits when the army's get big, player after player gets disconnected. We are playing 1.06 generals atm but problem remains, ive spend hours searching for server clients (i was told the game is p2p, but think that BS) without any luck. Does anybody know about server clients for generals are any other suggestions to get rid of the problem so we can play again? P.s. generals is the only game everyone of us has bought ORIGINAL coz we liked it...which makes it even more annoying. |
Re: Whats up with this game? My best sugestion would be not to play 8 players sinces its pritty laggy and also dont use thoese big maps they are laggy |

Re: Whats up with this game? Aight sorry bout that JP:) And were just running it on a 24 port hub (dont know the detail but its a fast one) with network cables... We have dedicated servers but the option is not available in generals...ow well were going tomorrow and sunday so hope it'll be fine, thx for the replies:clap: |
Re: Whats up with this game? The hub is the reason. Most hub's are only 10mbits, some ae 100mbits but htat still isnt enough for generals or ZH. because hubs are weak in the fact that they share bandwith with all connections. that 10mbits divided by 8, or really most of those types of devices, only actually ferform at 70-75% of intended speed. so 7mbits to 8 connections. I use a 16 port 100mbits switch, which is different becasu it has a seperate higher total bandwith. mine swith has a total bandwidth capacity of 12gbits. each port could be allocated up to 100mbits but a the total bandwith usage will be no more than 12gbits. let me tell you, that is plenty enough to have two 8 player games woing with acceptable speed, i have seen swithes faster than mine too. Routers and gateway routers usually are paired with a swith so tend to be faster than the average Hub. your hub is 24 port though, so maybe its 100mbits but htat may not be enough for 8 player generals. generals is bandwith hogging game. |
Re: Whats up with this game? i use a d-link DI-604 router and generals works pretty fine with it. When i play with my buddy on a lan and we play against 3-6 computers you tend to notice that the game starts to slow down. I really don't know if there is much i can do about it so i've stopped wondering. is there a way to speed this up a little bit? |
