doe anyone know what FUBAR means? i have seen it somewhere..... :bows:

NerayaN August 19th, 2003 03:18 AM

"fubar" stands for the german word "furchtbar", what means "terrible" :nodding:

(U can see that in the movie "We were soldiers")

IndigoSpyder August 19th, 2003 04:37 AM

Re: pow

I though it was 'fuck up and get recognition" (in Saving Private Ryan)

Scipio August 19th, 2003 10:40 AM

Re: pow

i thougt snafu meant "situataion normal all F**ked up".

AzH August 19th, 2003 10:50 AM

Re: pow

That would just be plain rude scipio!!

What's a Snafu?
The saying originated in the U.S. Military during World War 2 as a sarcastic comment about standard operating procedures. "Situation Normal, All Fucked Up!"

Snafu is now used to indicate any foul up.

Fouled up is just the cleaner version I suppose.

Do your research - F.U.B.A.R.

Fucked Up Beyond All Recognition. :smokin:

Recognition can be replaced with Recovery, Reason, Reconciliation.

Could it be, that they changed the sense of F.U.B.A.R. in the german version of Saving Private Ryan? Because in the german version it really means "furchtbar"...

He's right where it is, but he is wrong what it means.

FUBAR is 'fucked up beyond all recognition'. Any similarity to furchtbar is pure coincidence.

If you think about it, GI's would be more likely to use a military acronym than an enemy word. Yes??

Scipio August 20th, 2003 01:11 PM

:agreed 100% correct :spamtastic

Why thank you. People dont usually reconize my name, so it makes me proud when ppl understand the nature of my name.

AzH August 22nd, 2003 01:58 PM

off topic

But anyway,

the question was answered and the thread has EVOLVED!!

I have no objections to a MOD moving this somewhere more appropriate, but sometimes it is difficult to stay on topic when the topic has run it's course.

Please, feel free to post something on topic... if ya can!

You are quite welcome. I guess I watch too many movies and have a keen interest in history too. I have not encountered anybody who can tell me the nature of my moniker yet...

(aww, shucks. I'm off topic again) ;)
