your logic works, but the rules still apply. ;) anyhow i was actualy saying what i said in response to the original post. you did well (i think) in helping with the drive problem. :)

Im impressed with your sence of keeping up the rules (not kidding....).

Geuss that may also have been, sub-consiously at least, why i gave him the network option. It helped me so Much when i was admin at the net cafe... however 8 servers with each 3 DVD drives... thats a alot of disks....

The answer you are looking for. (possibly)

I think that the problem the problem is that the mod is referring to an older version of "cnc3game.dat"

You will notice that the RetailExe folder* contains folders for every patch up to the current one that you have installed. I think that the problem us that the mod is referring to an older version that has not been cracked.

This can probably be rectified by getting as cracked file for whatever one the mod is looking at. (or just all of them)

Anyway it would be good for someone to clarify exactly where the line is drawn in regards to cracks.

Is it ok to ask for help when you own a legal copy of the game and are having disk problems like is happening here? (as i think it should be)

Upto saying where you can download an illegal version of the game (that i do not agree with)

*C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Command & Conquer 3\RetailExe

now that is the problem here. As long as you own the DISK, or in some newer cases its enough to just own the serial for any given software you are allowed to go to a torrent site or use a P2P program to download the appropiate software.

That is however a matter that has been covered in the general forum rules. No linking at all.

BTW: how did you conclude that his problem was patch related?

As i remember the general law, it is not illegal to use a no-cd crack for your game as long as you own the licence. As there has also been said: nothing illegal in installing a game on several computers as long as only one of them run at a time.

Legality is not the issue here on the forums. Generally the people discussing cd cracks are pirates, so we therefore don't allow that type of discussion in our forum guidelines. :)

Basically you can do whatever you like with a single licence as long as it stays on your computer and you only run as many games simultaniously as you have licences.
You made that much clearer than I did.

I thought it was patch related because I have had a similar problem in the past.

its fixed so i think the purpose of this thread no longer exists. the no cd cracks thing got cleared up so this thread has no further purpose and should probably be locked.
