Whats wrong with my COD? please help Ok, so i've been playing COD since it came out, I just now really got into online gaming. My game will sometime freeze for no reason, It's not the servers I use because I try different servers all the time. I'll be plaing fine, then for a minute or so I wont be able to move, keys don't do anything, and then it goes back to normal. My video card was screwed up where it would just shut down COD completely (only online for some reason) but I installed the old drivers and it's doesn't shut down now. Maybe my connection gets interrupted, or maybe its something completely different. If anyone could help me out with this just leave me a message on here. Thanks! |
Re: Whats wrong with my COD? please help It could be your connection. If you have Broadband, if your microfilter is arsed up it can cancel your connection when someone phones. If this happens you will get a "connection interupted" message at the bottem of the screen. If you are on modem or ISDN, it may just be the ISP disconnecting you to free up the system and the auto-redial kicking in. Else, it could be the ping on your connection. If you know about packet losses and stuff you may want to investigate further but it's too big a topic to explain. If it is your connection, then you could try getting a different Microfilter for your connection (if you have BB that is) or if you have a dailup modem try and find an ISP who doesn't disconnect you every two hours. There may be an option in the modem properties also. Good Luck. |
Re: Whats wrong with my COD? please help COuld be His computer, post your specs, and tell me if you overclock. |
Re: Whats wrong with my COD? please help Windows XP Home P4 2.4 Ghz 768 DDR Ram PNY Geforce FX 5200 Ultra 128 graphics card 80 gig hard drive I dont think i'm overclocking, I'd like to invest in some dual 512 ddr ram. It runs fine when i play the single play and unreal tournament 2004 runs great online. Thanks for the insight |
Re: Whats wrong with my COD? please help That all looks absolutely fine, if not too good! The Graphics card is the only possible explanation out of these specs - it could be faulty. If you home install graphics cards, you must make sure to ground yourselves first by touching the metal casing of your computer before picking up the card or touching any other part of the insides of your computer. My Verdict: XP - Best for it Pentium 4 2.4Ghz - Way more than it needs 768Mb DDR Ram - More than it needs Geforce FX 5200 Ultra 128Mb G/fix - Brilliant. Top of range - it won't be that (unless you accidentally shocked it while installing; would explain the problems) 80 gig - CoD needs about a hundreth of that - won't be that. Another Possible fix could be: Right Click on "My Computer" Go to "Properties" Go to "Advanced" tab Click on Performance "Settings" Click the "Advanced" tab Click on "Change" next to Virtual Memory Set the virtual memory to 500Mb on both minimum and maximum. This is suggested by Activision for Graphical Problems, so it could work. If the amount stated/recommended is higher than 500Mb (usually is - mine suggested 1GB) then set the minimum and max to that value. Virtual Memory is a temporary storage for batch files among others so it could be the problem. Good Luck. |
Re: Whats wrong with my COD? please help Also - what connection are you on? I presume Broadband. Please tell me your modem (USB or Ethernet), ISP, Speed and if you are using any hubs/routers. |
Re: Whats wrong with my COD? please help I'll have to get back to you on the modem and what not, I always ground my self when installing inside components so i doubt i fried my card or anythings. I'll definately adjust my virtual memory when I get back to my apartment and i'll give you my modem brand there. I have cable internet and its a great connection, faster than anything I've ever had before, I am running the modem into a wireless router so my roommate can get online and we dont have to drill a hole in the wall. Do you think that might have anything to do with it? |
Re: Whats wrong with my COD? please help did you try reinstalling the game? |
Re: Whats wrong with my COD? please help sounds like your machine could do with a real good clean-up when did you last empty out your folders? did a scandisk? or a defrag? If the answer is more than three months ago, you better get cracking - I bet yah that this'll sort things out in no time... :) |
Re: Whats wrong with my COD? please help virus perhaps |
Re: Whats wrong with my COD? please help I clean up my hard drive often, did a defrag last week, just did a virus scan, got rid of all ad and spyware. I dont think thats the problem, cause all my other games run fine online. And when i play single play it runs flawlessly. And Reven my modem, Its a Terayon TJ715X it came with my comcast cable package. |
Re: Whats wrong with my COD? please help My virtual memory is set to Initial size (MB) 768 and Maximum size (MB) 1536, do you still think i should set it to 500 for both? |
Re: Whats wrong with my COD? please help Has the problem by any chance started since you upgrade to 1.4? If so then it it very plausible that it is connected to Punkbuster and/or Server punkbuster settings. |
Re: Whats wrong with my COD? please help Well I didn't play online till after i installed 1.4 Where do i go to change my punkbuster settings, I connect through gamespy if thats any help |
Re: Whats wrong with my COD? please help I only played after I got 1.4 and I have it fine. You could try changing both values of the virtual memory to 500Mb, but if the minimum value is already recommended to be over that, then it probably isn't the problem. But still give it a go, you can change it back easily if it isn't the problem (make sure you do change it back - it can seriously arse up the loadup speed and stuff if it isn't enough for the game) I asked for the modem because if it was a dial up it could be your ISP arsing about with your connection, but it is cable which is pretty much bombproof. As constant as electricity. Now, connecting through gamespy........... Have you tried using just the normal multiplayer mode to connect online? I use it and it is perfectly fine and I have never had problems with it. You could maybe try that. But back to my original theory - does cable have any sort of method which filters out your connection from your cable line or iks it just a cable in socket thing? If there is some sort of way it splits the cable-line to your home, you could try having a look at it making sure it is working. Some people have had problems with all-in-one cable lines before where they get TV, Phone and Internet together. Do you have any sort of multipackage thing? |
Re: Whats wrong with my COD? please help Whats your connection. It could be that if you have 56k. On my laptop it would freeze only when I used the mouse that I borrowed. Download the latest drivers. Or bring it into some place. They can probably fix it at a low cost. |
Re: Whats wrong with my COD? please help or Just use the COD server browser, and to turn on PB goto MP options and click unk Buster *I think* |
Re: Whats wrong with my COD? please help I don't think he is running 56kbps. It would not be worth networking a 56k modem. Anyway, Cable is high speed - thats the whole point. It wouldn't be practical having cable if you could get the same speed on the telephone line. Has anything worked yet? Any improvements? If you are really struggling, e-mail Activision on their support website http://www.activision.com/support all the phone numbers are in the manual as well. |
Re: Whats wrong with my COD? please help I have been really busy with trying to find a job, getting ready for school, and my new band. I am on a cable modem, its really fast. my ping rarely goes over 100! Thanks for all the help! |
Re: Whats wrong with my COD? please help Tell us if you get it sorted. Whats your Bands name and what do you do in it? |
