Whats wrong with my COD? please help

Ok, so i've been playing COD since it came out, I just now really got into online gaming. My game will sometime freeze for no reason, It's not the servers I use because I try different servers all the time. I'll be plaing fine, then for a minute or so I wont be able to move, keys don't do anything, and then it goes back to normal. My video card was screwed up where it would just shut down COD completely (only online for some reason) but I installed the old drivers and it's doesn't shut down now. Maybe my connection gets interrupted, or maybe its something completely different. If anyone could help me out with this just leave me a message on here. Thanks!

It could be your connection. If you have Broadband, if your microfilter is arsed up it can cancel your connection when someone phones. If this happens you will get a "connection interupted" message at the bottem of the screen. If you are on modem or ISDN, it may just be the ISP disconnecting you to free up the system and the auto-redial kicking in. Else, it could be the ping on your connection. If you know about packet losses and stuff you may want to investigate further but it's too big a topic to explain. If it is your connection, then you could try getting a different Microfilter for your connection (if you have BB that is) or if you have a dailup modem try and find an ISP who doesn't disconnect you every two hours. There may be an option in the modem properties also.

Good Luck.

Windows XP Home
P4 2.4 Ghz
768 DDR Ram
PNY Geforce FX 5200 Ultra 128 graphics card
80 gig hard drive

I dont think i'm overclocking, I'd like to invest in some dual 512 ddr ram. It runs fine when i play the single play and unreal tournament 2004 runs great online. Thanks for the insight

That all looks absolutely fine, if not too good! The Graphics card is the only possible explanation out of these specs - it could be faulty. If you home install graphics cards, you must make sure to ground yourselves first by touching the metal casing of your computer before picking up the card or touching any other part of the insides of your computer.

My Verdict:

XP - Best for it
Pentium 4 2.4Ghz - Way more than it needs
768Mb DDR Ram - More than it needs
Geforce FX 5200 Ultra 128Mb G/fix - Brilliant. Top of range - it won't be that (unless you accidentally shocked it while installing; would explain the problems)
80 gig - CoD needs about a hundreth of that - won't be that.

Another Possible fix could be:

Right Click on "My Computer"
Go to "Properties"
Go to "Advanced" tab
Click on Performance "Settings"
Click the "Advanced" tab
Click on "Change" next to Virtual Memory
Set the virtual memory to 500Mb on both minimum and maximum.

This is suggested by Activision for Graphical Problems, so it could work.
If the amount stated/recommended is higher than 500Mb (usually is - mine suggested 1GB) then set the minimum and max to that value.

Virtual Memory is a temporary storage for batch files among others so it could be the problem.

Good Luck.

Also - what connection are you on? I presume Broadband. Please tell me your modem (USB or Ethernet), ISP, Speed and if you are using any hubs/routers.

I'll have to get back to you on the modem and what not, I always ground my self when installing inside components so i doubt i fried my card or anythings. I'll definately adjust my virtual memory when I get back to my apartment and i'll give you my modem brand there. I have cable internet and its a great connection, faster than anything I've ever had before, I am running the modem into a wireless router so my roommate can get online and we dont have to drill a hole in the wall. Do you think that might have anything to do with it?

sounds like your machine could do with a real good clean-up

when did you last empty out your folders? did a scandisk? or a defrag?

If the answer is more than three months ago, you better get cracking - I bet yah that this'll sort things out in no time... :)
