Need Help with Biranu Station Mission

The Galor ships are too fast, they run circles around me hitting me with every torpedo they fire. They destroy the station and kill Picard and me. How can I defeat them? I can't even hit them.

Here is what the walkthrough says:

Soon, though, the Cardassians begin firing on Biranu Station. Destroy two
Cardassian ships and the other two will warp away. Captain Draxon says he's
going to chase them and asks you to join, and Kiska tells you the Cardassians
warped to Biranu 1. Go ahead, follow them. Though it's not essential.
-After a few minutes, two more Cardassian Galors will approach Biranu Station.
If you stayed behind, you're already there, but if you followed the Klingons to
Biranu 1, Warp back to Biranu 2 immediately!

It's only on Captain difficulty. Between cheap ships and an annoying first officer, I'm not having as much fun as I thought.

Re: Need Help with Biranu Station Mission

Well I used cheats to beat this mission, It was BS anyway. I don't plan on using cheats anymore, just wanted to advance the story-line. Just got the Sovereign and wow It's great. Way better for combat. :P

Re: Need Help with Biranu Station Mission

You gotta be kidding me! This is one of the easiest missions in the game. I haven't played the campaign for few years now, but let's see if I still remember that mission.

Klingons fight Cardassians and you are forced to just sit and watch until Cardassians start shooting at the station.

Felix: Third Cardassian looks like he's manuevaring for the fireing pass on the station, Sir.
Saffi: Report, Lieutenant.
Felix: I could be wrong... no, there! One of the Galors has fired on the station.
Miguel: Attacking a defensless station... Some challenge for a warrior race.
Kiska: What did you expect? They're Cardassians. It's what they live for.
Saffi: Belay that talk, Ensign. At least until later.
Kiska: Sir, we are receiving an emergency transmission from the station. On screen.
Picard: The station Commander is dead and I'm assuming command here. We have been severely damaged. You must protect this station.

At this point, I went to Red Alert, targeted third Galor and went straight for him. I grabbed him with a Tractor Beam when he turned his dorsal (upper) shield toward me and fired Phasers and Torpedos at his Shield Generator to disable it. I gave Fore Attack order to Felix to maintain constant Tractor lock. That way Galor couldn't manuevar and thus couldn't fire at me, so he was easy to destroy. Forth Galor was fireing at me all the time, but he didn't even scratch the paint from my hull because I had full shields when I joined the battle. I took him out the same way I took out third Galor. Other two Galors then warped away to Biranu 1, as you already know. I followed them and managed to destroy them both (with the help from the Klingons) using the same method before I was recalled back to Biranu 2, so I went there ahead of time. I managed to intercept those extra 2 Galors and destroyed one before he could take a shot at the station. Klingons pretty much took care of the other one.

Note that I played the game on First Officer difficulty level and I probably forgot some details. I see you edited your post while I was working on mine. I never used cheats in this game and was able to finish it anyway, so it is possible after all.

Re: Need Help with Biranu Station Mission

I don't understand a few things.

1. How do you avoid torpedoes? they always hit me, I try to evade using speed changes but no matter what they hit me. Sometimes an enemy ship will hit me with like 4 in a row and then I blow up. I try to move the strongest part of my ship toward the incoming torpedoes, but It doesn't always work.

2. I usually use full phasers to weaken shields, when I use low It seems to hardly do anything at all. Basically If I don't hit with my torpedoes then any ship can beat me. I change arcs, but sometimes I can't fire on them at all, due to them going in the few blind spots these ships have. The game recommends using low phaser fire to weaken subsystems, It does not seem to work for me. I try to hit them where they've lost shield strength but I can't maneuver to those spots often and I have to take all their shields down first.

I need help, I'm pissed off and having doubts in my skill as a gamer. I've been gaming since I was like 8 and I'm 24 now. I've mastered countless games and I want to master this one.

I always target manually and pilot on manual. My crew usually gets me killed instead of helping. I usually put all systems except sensors to 125, and drop sensors to 10 unless I'm fighting cloaking vessels. I use the tactical view(t) when I'm in combat at all times.

Your idea about using the tractor beam in combat is interesting, I will try that. I need more advice, please advise.

Tricorder November 7th, 2008 04:23 AM

Re: Need Help with Biranu Station Mission

There isn't much left to advise. Like I said; grab them with the Tractor Beam when they turn their Dorsal shield toward you and don't let go. Just hold them immobile and fire your weapons at full strenght. If they turn their Ventral shield toward you, you can shoot their Warp Core instead of a Shield Generator. That way you can take them out even quicker.

Don't do all the work yourself. Let Felix manuevar the ship and fire the weapons. You just give him orders from the Tactics menu. That's how I always play and it works fine for me. I don't bother with evading Torpedos very much. Sometimes it's actually better to take a hit than to evade it. It all depends on the situation. I guess I developed certain feeling for it. :clueless:

Re: Need Help with Biranu Station Mission

Hmm I'll give It a shot. Right now I'm on the mission where you do a simulation against the other federation ship. He beat me easily, I tried to self destruct cuz I was mad lol.

Tried it your way and still lost to the fed ship. Right after 2 klingon ships joined in and destroyed me within 3 seconds. I don't understand how or why. I'm considering quitting, and I just spent 60 bucks on this game. I just suck.

My phasers don't do enough damage and the tractor beam drains all my power.
I already punched my keyboard twice and slammed It once, about to knock my tower on the floor.

Tricorder November 7th, 2008 04:50 AM

Re: Need Help with Biranu Station Mission

Aaaaah! So the old McCray is whooping your precious behind, eh? :D He's easy to beat. When you see he's about to fire Torpedos at you, quickly turn your strongest shield toward him (Forward, Dorsal or Ventral). I always shoot Impulse Engines on Akira class ships because they are easy to hit and by taking them out I'm taking away Akira class' greatest advantage - manuevarability. Fortunately, you can decline to fight Geronimo.

As for the Klingons; yes, they are a bit hard to defeat. Just let them destroy you and move on. It's a simulated battle anyway and you don't have to win in order to continue. Don't quit yet! Start the game from beginning at First Officer difficulty level if it's too hard for you now. And don't hesitate to ask me for any advice regarding any mission.

Q'apla!

Re: Need Help with Biranu Station Mission

I was gonna post screenshots to show how badly I get owned. When I fight warbirds or galaxys in the sim I win easy. Any other vessel seems to out-run and out-gun me.

Re: Need Help with Biranu Station Mission

Sure, post some screenshots if you wish, altough a video would be better. Got Fraps?

Re: Need Help with Biranu Station Mission

hello ensign w
try this when the two galors warp away don't follow to biranu 1 stay put at the station and repair damage, while u wait for the 2nd wave, when they arrive follow Tricorder's posted suggestion.when the Rankuf returns the 1st wave will follow then the fun starts the klingons will help you kick their tails.

EnsignW November 7th, 2008 08:07 AM

Re: Need Help with Biranu Station Mission

I don't have fraps, I'm just gonna take a break and relax before I destroy my computer lol. Tomorrow I'll give the next mission another shot when my head is clear.

Excellent idea! I have to admit; this game annoyed the hell out of me too couple of times. My computer is still in one piece, though. Altough that sledge hammer could still come in handy. :p

Re: Need Help with Biranu Station Mission

Heh, it looks like you should play through the First Officer level first. From the looks of it, you won't stand a chance in the upcoming missions, specifically in missions where the odds are against you.

Not to sound too harsh though. :)

Here's what I usually do when I fight good 'ol captain MacCray. If you haven't changed to quantums yet and are still on photons, fire them off and quickly change to the quantums. It's a simulation so you won't be losing any real quantums.

Note: I usually fire my torps at a distance of 30 or less. Even at 30, I change my spread to dual or quad to guarantee a hit. 20 is the best distance to fire your torps.

Anyways, I like to do things differently. I will constantly target his torpedoes since quantums are devastating. Do your best to destroy all of his torpedoes. Once this is done, he'll probably remark on your nice shot. Next, target his shield generator, warp core, or phasers. When he remarks that he has recorded simulated hull breaches, then you're almost there.

Anyways, after this, the Klingons will come in. If you're looking for a quick win, which I always pick since I hate losing, I will target the Rankuf. Destroying the Rankuf will automatically end the mission in victory. If you target the other bird of prey, Draxon will simply say the captain is inexperienced whilst he resumes firing.

Anyways, hope this helps. Once you're done with this mission, you'll have even more fun in the nebula.

Re: Need Help with Biranu Station Mission

I successfully defeated the klingons and skipped the fight with the federation captain :)

I have a question about general tactics though, do you guys always use low phaser fire or do you start with full and then switch to low?

Tricorder November 8th, 2008 07:54 AM

Re: Need Help with Biranu Station Mission

I always use full intensity unless I want to disable some system on the enemy ship without causing too much hull damage. For example; that mission you already passed where you have to disable Warp Engines on a Ferengi Marauder. I fired Phasers at full intensity along with Torpedos until I took down Marauder's aft shield. Then, I switched Phasers to low intensity and put a hold on Torpedos to avoid damaging the Marauder too much. Later in the game, you will have to stop Klingon Vor'cha from ramming Romulan Warbird by disableing it's Impulse Engines. Again, low intensity Phaser setting is recommended.

Re: Need Help with Biranu Station Mission

I only ever use high intensity. I never use tractor beam either.

Re: Need Help with Biranu Station Mission

It's just not a fun campaign, how many times did the enterprise fight like 2-3 warbirds alone? Every mission is a combat mission, kinda ruins the single player for me completely. Can't wait till STO comes out cuz I don't plan on having to kill something every mission. When do I get to encounter species to negoatiate with or a mystery to solve?

Tricorder November 9th, 2008 09:17 AM

Re: Need Help with Biranu Station Mission

Bridge Commander is pretty much all about fighting. There are some missions where you have to look for something, but the fight is inevitable sooner or later. For example; in one mission you have to hide in the asteroid field, shut down your weapons, shields and engines to decrease power emission to minimum in attempt to avoid being detected by Cardassians who came to that system to meet with the Kessok (new species!). Then, you tap into their comline and listen to their conversation. At one point, Cardassians detect you. Lead Cardassian ship (Matan) and Kessok ship warp away while more Galors warp in. You can either escape back to Starbase 12 or stay and fight. Hint: Stay and fight. If you destroy all 7 Galors, you get Secret Quantum Torpedos! That means that your stock of Quantum Torpedos magically replenishes itself (if you spent any, ofcourse).

Freakydude November 9th, 2008 04:39 PM

Re: Need Help with Biranu Station Mission

Yeah, Birdge Commander has its "Star Trek" like moments, but it is still mostly ship-to-ship combat. There's the in-betweens of ferrying ambassadors and looking for strange objects in different systems but you will always end up fighting a group of ships. The story is pretty linear in that sense. There are only two variations to your ending in the second-last level and that is the type of ally you want to fight with you.

What!? So your quantum torpedoe count goes back up to 60? Oh I got to try this out. Tricorder, your a man full of gold grade information! Thanks! :bows:

Yep. It goes back up to 60, no matter how many you have spent, so you can spend them all if your heart desires. Not to mention the fun of fighting against 7 Galors inside the asteroid field. =p And you're welcome. :)

I didn't even know that, cool.

Oh! :p Oops sorry yeah Tricorder no offense eh? Anyways my first try on this I ended up coliding with one of the galors I just destroyed and disabled all my forward phasers :bawl: still had three galors to go, with minimal weapons my ship blew shortly after that(freak..that close!). That's okay though, I'm not really that concerned with winning....just enjoying the fun of engaging against this many enemy ships in an asteroid field(ooohh nerve racking..and of course knowing I'll replenish my supply of quantum torpedoes should I win :D ). Oh yeah..I love this game!!

No offense taken. I must say, I never had much trouble dealing with those Galors. My reliable grab them with the Tractor Beam and don't let go tactic never failed me, so those Galors barely managed to scratch the paint off my hull. I'm not sure anymore, but I think two of them even collided with each other while manuevaring between the asteroids. =p Stupid Cardassians. :p
