Noob Need Help With Kobayashi Maru Install It's been a few years since I played Bridge Commander. I am thrilled to find out that there are so many cool mods. I have never used modes with BC before so I really could use someone's help with this. I heard about the Kobayashi Maru 1.0 and it sounded like everything I needed all in one lump sum so to speak. I followed the instructions by doing a clean install of BC. I then updated to the patch 1.1, so far so good. Here is where the problem is for me, the instructions say (please see below in red): 1. What is the detailed procedure for installing KM? I have the Zipped KM file. When I unzip it to my folder it has a KM1.0 folder. What then? I have no idea what steps to take next and I couldn't find detailed install instructions. No *.exe file to click on either. I don't want to randomly start copying files over to my existing BC directly in Program Files unless I know exactly what I am doing. 2. Once installed where do I go to find "Options/Customize/Configurations/Custom Options/Options and toggle on the mutator? Whatever that is? I just need step by step instructions on how to make this work. Anyone who can help me out would be greatly appreciated on this end. The instructions that came with this mod seem to be more geared around someone who has moded BC before which I never have. Thank you! Much appreciated. Install: <----------> Kobayashi Maru has to be installed into a clean 1.1 installation: 1. Install Bridge Commander 2. Install the 1.1 patch 3. Install KOBMARU First run: toggle on Mods <----------> Go to Options->Customize->Configurations->Custom Options->Options Toggle on Mutators here. Now Click on Customize on the left side again. You can enable now all Mods under the Mutator Menu. |
Re: Noob Need Help With Kobayashi Maru Install Just to make sure everything's working properly, you should do the following. Uninstall the game and after that, delete the "Bridge Commander" folder which is in the "Activision" folder. This is by default located in Program Files. Next, reinstall Bridge Commander. After that, apply the patch (I think you also have to run the game once). Now, unzip your KM 1.0 file to your desktop. Open up this folder and copy "everything" into your main Bridge Commander folder. Run the game. Go to the Configure menu. There should now be a neat little Customize button that you can click. From here go to Configurations->Custom Options->Options and you should turn everything on. Click on the Customize button again. Go to the Mutators menu and activate the mods that you want, or just everything if you want the whole KM experience. Good luck and I hope this works out. |
Re: Noob Need Help With Kobayashi Maru Install So what your saying is unzip the KM 1.0 and open that folder, select all and then copy everything to: C:\Program Files\Activision\Bridge Commander And overwrite everything? Thank you for your response. |
Re: Noob Need Help With Kobayashi Maru Install Yep, that's pretty much all you have to do. Hope it worked out fine. :cya: |
Re: Noob Need Help With Kobayashi Maru Install Freakydude, Thank you so much, it worked perfect! Wow! I am still trying to figure out all the options, is there a manual for this somewhere I can download? Some questions I have (answer if you feel) 1. Under Configurations what is the Master Switch? 2. I selected Autotest 3. What is the Era Jaggie fix? Also under graphics I chose and what is? 1. Nano Fx Beta configuration? 2. BCS: The beginning? 3. Bridge plugin, I seleted this. 4. DsaFx what is this? 5. Mutators selected 6. Gravity fx config. Basically, I selected everything. I hope this is the correct approach. When I do a single battle against the computer I can't chose a Defiant class starship but I can chose the bridge for it. So I am wondering if I am doing this right. I do hear different music and the graphics are far better as well. Is there any advice you or anyone could give me on how to make the most out of the KM 1.0 mod? Is there a way to battle a borg cube for instance and if so, how? Anyway, any input is appreciated, sorry for all the questions, just trying to figure this out. Thank you! Have a good one! |
Re: Noob Need Help With Kobayashi Maru Install simply select the borg cube as an enemy and then start the battle ;) |

To be honest, I don't remember what the Master Switch is for but I think it activates everything in KM... Anyone else know? Anyways, since you've activated all mutators, you should be able to go into quick battle and select that Borg Cube now. It should be located under the "Borg Ships" menu. |
Re: Noob Need Help With Kobayashi Maru Install Well...here is the deal I still can't bring up the Borg Cube or any of the "extra" ships in Quick Battle or Custom Mode. Do I need to be hosting my own server to see them? I ask because if I join a server, I see all the ships you're speaking of. I was wondering is there a way to see the same ships without being in a server? Against the CPU...Quick Battles like you mentioned. I double checked and I got all the options selected. What am I missing? Thanks again, much appreciated. =AB2D= NUGGET  |
Re: Noob Need Help With Kobayashi Maru Install you really should be posting any problems with KM at the KM forums themselves... you can find the link in a stickied thread in the Tech Support Forum here... |
Re: Noob Need Help With Kobayashi Maru Install I appreciate what your suggesting JimmyB76 I went to the site and registered but so far they haven't emailed me the activiation email yet. I can see all the extra ships in Multiplayer just fine. Just not under Quick Battle. I am not sure if I have a problem or if I am just missing some step. I just want to confirm that under Quick Battle you should be able to chose all kinds of new ships...Borg Cubes...all kinds of Federation ships...basically everything you would see in Multiplayer. Of course, I have never seen the Borg Cube in Multiplayer before, just the orb and the pyramid looking queen ship. If anyone can just tell me if I am missing any steps in Quick Battle, I would appreciate it. In Quick Battle, I see the "extra bridges" such as the Defiant class bridge, just no Defiant class ships. Is there some trick to all this? Thank you!!! |
