THRUSTERS in KM... How do they work?

I looked in the Doc file that came with KM...
Went to the FAQ...
I can't find how these things work...
Do the thrusters function if your impulse engines are disabled/destroyed?

i already asked the exact question a couple of weeks ago actually. :)

well, first of all you should assign buttons of your keyboard to each of the thrusters ( example > 8 for up, 2 for down, etc...)
you have to do this in the menu where you assign all the other functions as well.

now youre ready to use your thrusters :D

i hope this is somewhat understandable

let me know if it works...or not :D

ciao, dan

there should be also a menu in siska's menu

@ Henze: Right. I saw the thrusters in Kiska's menu, but I was unable to operate them.

So you're telling me I'll have to keybind them? In the actual game menu? I'll give that a go...

The Thrusters don't actually have any control assigned to them, you have to do this manually in the options menu.

TRUE_MJAY July 12th, 2007 10:36 AM

I still can't work it. If anything, the thrusters bring the ship to a halt.

I'm going to see if adding a Thruster subsystem makes a difference.

gdan87 July 12th, 2007 10:40 AM

you got it man

TRUE_MJAY July 12th, 2007 10:48 AM

Ok. nvm.

I noticed that, depending on the setting under Thrusters in Kiska's menu, that adjust the Speed setting in the bottom right corner of the screen... as high as setting 4...

...but your speed remains zero.

Occasionally, I see my speed increase to roughly 400+ kph. But I don't actually Thruster to the left or right or anything.

Am I to understand that the thruster mod doesn't actually turn (or aid in turning) the ship? I know for fact, that it shouldn't give me impulse speeds. But what is it suppose to do in game? And is mine operating properly?

:deal:
First you have to activate "Thrusters" under Mutators.
Then assign Thruster Left, Right, Up and Down to a button.
Now your ship can move, not just turn, to the left, the right, up and down.
Under Thrusters in Kiska´s menu you set how fast the ship moves into each direction.

:D

the thrusters don't control the existing Pitch, Yaw and Roll axis that the impulse engines do, instead, they control the X and Z axis, like in ST:II when Kirk orders Z minus 10,000 meters and the ship 'dives'

Primarch Vulkan July 15th, 2007 08:53 AM

Well this has cleared up my questions as well!

Torpedo423 July 19th, 2007 12:29 PM

i got mine to move 3 inches once with a thurster then it stoped and i cant get it to work

TRUE_MJAY August 2nd, 2007 12:06 AM

lmao

Well, I'm finally an expert with thrusters.
Thanks for all the help everyone.

Figured it out some time ago.
Thruster power is only useful when you put it on Full with Kiska's menu.
I've assigned it to my arrow keys. Up for thrust up, and so forth.
I find it useful for avoiding head-on collisions when I do close range fly-bys with bigger ships like the Excelsior or Sovereign.
Definitely helps me out with evading Dominion bugships that come barreling in for the kamikaze.
Again thanks.
