go to scripts/custom/ships, and look for the PY of the ship that you wish to change the name... then open it (with notepad) also make a backup of it in case something should go wrong...
look for:
Code:
longName = "whatever"
"whatever" is the name of how it appears in your QB menu list...
save it, then delete the PYC and you're all set...
you'll need to open the file (whatever it's name is) in scripts/ships/ and change the line "Name: whatever" to "Name: whatever you want"
also, go with what jimmy said and change the plugin too.
changing the pointer file (in scripts/ships) will change the name of the ship IN THE GAME.
change the plugin will change the name IN THE MENUES.
keep that in mind and good luck.

I'm a little confused on this point, and need some clarification. The ships I've added show up fine in the main selection menu. I changed the "longName" to the name I wanted. But some ships show up as "???" in the menu of the ships I've already selected for quickbattle, even when they show up properly in the main selection menu. Why would they not be the same? Also, in the game, all of my ships are either labeled as "???" or they share the name of my hardpoint .py file (I think?). This is a minor issue, but I would dearly like to resolve it. I have KM installed, if that's important - some of those ships have the same issue.
