Did You Know....? Did you know that the TOS Constitution Class Starships were capable of Saucer Seperation? It's Briefly Mentioned In "The Apple". Just Wondering Why Nobody's made one yet. |
Re: Did You Know....? I'd imagine any starship's capable of severing ties with the neck of the secondary hull and have a seperated saucer. I thought the Galaxy-class was the first to have an easily-reconnectable saucer section with a system easily allowing seperation and reconnection fast without the need of towing it back to a base and have workbees to take hours reconnecting the ship's primary hull (saucer) with it's secondary (engineering) hull. But that's getting geeky. |
Re: Did You Know....? Knew about this for a long time, the coni was first seen doing it in the fan series "Star Trek:New Voyages" in terms of graphicly or perhaps I should say they were going to it then then Planet Killer nuked the ship tearing the saucer right off the stardrive section and then was later cut in half by the Anti-Proton weapon. Despite only being seen on a fan series Kirk does indeed mention it in "The Apple". |
Re: Did You Know....? wow cool! also the sovereign class was also for separating the saucer!! They never mentioned it but the designers draw this on sketches and on the board. |
Re: Did You Know....? The Excelsior (NCC-2000) was mentioned to have a Seperation feature too, breifly explained in the Generations Novel (but what Sulu was doing was just a drill for when "Warp Core Nukes after 5"). |
Re: Did You Know....? Yes, most of the TOS Era saucer sections was known to have "Emergency Seperation." Though mentioned in the TOS 2nd season episode " The Apple " it was never seen. The Ship's saucer could "not" reintergrate. As far as I know, that's not a canon function of the TOS era. Until TNG's premire back in '87 with the Enterprise-D. BR32 |
