Flags (3d map) are flickering/dissapearing Hello, Nope, I know you can turn the 3d map on and off using "alt". This is different.....the flags appear and dissapear mysteriously whilst flickering and blinking. Sometimes they are a bit more stable....and then gone again. It makes it very difficult to navigate and make fast decisions. I've browsed the forums, but can't find similair problems. Thanks 4 ur help! --- P4, 2.4Ghz 1GB RAM ATI Radeon 1600pro 512 MSI 846PE XP profesional |
Re: Flags (3d map) are flickering/dissapearing Are you saying the actual flags themselves are flickering, or that label that tells you how far you are from the flags? In any case, make sure that you have the latest ATI Catalist drivers, and call us in the morning. |
Re: Flags (3d map) are flickering/dissapearing It's the flags which show the distance. Your remark about driver is understandable, but I have a problem there! ATI told me not to go beyond catalyst 6.3, cause I get problems with my videocard which is really weird. It just slowly fills my screen with textures if I use later catalysts. ATI does not want to invest more time to find a solution for my problem. So, actually I was hoping for a different solution...... |
Re: Flags (3d map) are flickering/dissapearing I was thinking then that it might be your video card getting too hot and possibly overheating some. Check your temps inside your case, and call us in the morning. |
Re: Flags (3d map) are flickering/dissapearing mmm. temps seem to be ok......and would I not experience more troubles if that was the case? I mean otherwise the game is running fine. I also tried to get rid of some detail and resolution...but no improvement on the flag issue. |
Re: Flags (3d map) are flickering/dissapearing Have you patched the game up to 1.3? |
Re: Flags (3d map) are flickering/dissapearing Yes, I have 1.3. Wish it were that simple, but good you asked. Can it have something to do with my refresh rate? I mean the flags come and go in a pattern...first I see them correctly......then they start to flicker more and more untill they dissapear completely. ......a short while after they are flickering again untill the point that they are present again......This loop keeps repeating. Maybe this explenation triggers some ideas with you. By the way, I reallly apriciate your fast responses. Bye, Fozzie |
Re: Flags (3d map) are flickering/dissapearing Oh, yea, sure, I enjoy answering people's questions. Anyway, is your monitor an LCD or a CRT? That's a good thought that it could be the refresh rates. |
Re: Flags (3d map) are flickering/dissapearing I've got CRT..... Is that logical? I saw the 1.4 patch will be released today....who knows, maybe it impoves! |
Re: Flags (3d map) are flickering/dissapearing Try forcing the game to run at a 60Hz refresh rate. |
Re: Flags (3d map) are flickering/dissapearing If he has a crt, it should run at a better refresh than 60 anyways. I think it may be the card artifacting as stated earlier. The reason being, the flags are constantly moving with a distance ratio to boot. I would suggest avoing the crappy catalysts you have, and trying the OMEGA DRIVERS for your 1600. Understand this : When dealing with heat and video cards, heat disperses very fast. When you take the pc off it's load ( when youa re done playing) heat moves out fast. Try checking your temps while you are in the game. See what your cpu and your vid card are clocking. |
Re: Flags (3d map) are flickering/dissapearing Sup, I have the same gfx card you do, different everything else - ( amd64 4400+ dual core / 4gig ram[ DDR 400 dual-channel ] / winXP-64 ). I've had same prob as you have - on an LCD flatty, at refresh rates 60 /70 /72 (selected via game-menu and also forced at driver level). It is a driver issue, not necessarily specific to Official ATI Cat. drivers or to modded drivers (Omega Drivers being one of several out there.) I'm using now the NGO Optimized Driver specificly for xp64, ver 6.2.X . [Yo M.DS - Omega Drivers die on my hardware, they are best however]. Right. The problem is due to a feature common to all ATI drivers, official or not. It is one of the optimizations for Anti-Aliasing: either Adaptive AA or (most likely) Temporal AA. The latter crashes with lots of games / makes them look weird. There are few other things to check as well, those are main. Quick fix: Try first disabling Temporal AA. If still funky, LEAVE IT OFF, and disable Adaptive AA also. ALSO- make sure Catalyst AI is set to either 'low' or 'off', the 'high' setting doesn't play nice with RV530 chipset (the core that lives inside an x1600 pro). Don't OC the card either! Its bitchy about mem timings / dividers etc. Best Fix: Same as above, but ditches some overhead. Solution is the same. Grab the following stuff, which you should be able to find with a search engine, though most of it is probably at guru3d.com: - ATI Tool (Overclocking tool - use it to crank the card's fan to 100%, don't actually OC the card.) - ATI Tray Tools (Replaces Catalyst Control Center == Bloatware) [Doesn't support RV530 chipset for overclocking/fan control] - Either Omega or NGO modded drivers for XP; I recommend a version based on the "official" Catalyst 6.2.X drivers. (Read the modded driver's description, it will always say what version it's based on. I can't recommend the DNA driver series, though they may be good for some hardware. Not for yours...) - Driver Cleaner Pro, or similar tool to nuke the drivers you have now. K. still there? good. Uninstall The ATI garbage - all of it. Use a driver cleaning utility to get all the crumbs. Now replace with nice modded 6.2.x driver. Install ATI Tray Tools. Install ATI Tool. Reboot as needed. To finish: go to ATI Tray Tools and select Tweaks-->Advanced. Ignore scary warning. Select section 'CC Mode Switch' from dropdown; check nice box. Exit App, then start it again- it is now your Control Center, except it doesn't suck a#s. You can use it to make all changes mentioned and save as app profile etc. Use 'ATI Tool' (not the same program) to crank your card's fan to 100% when you run 3d games. I Just looked at my settings for Bf2 - think its very likely Temporal AA that is messing up the flag icons. Also make sure that driver is NOT using 'Alternate Pixel Centers' option. Set Antialiasing to auto/application preference, adjust this from bf2 option menu. D*mn man, hope you read this crap, or someone else who has this prob; Typed a long one this time.... peace out. |
