Patch 1.03 "patch failed" solved!!!!

I've installed and reinstalled this game and windows xp pro about a billion times over the course of 2 days.....and finally i got the patch to say "patch successful"....this is what i did....
1. i reinstalled windows xp pro
2. only installed the video drivers from the game cd (77.30)
3. then installed the game and 1.03 patch (without installing any other drivers, no sound, no nothing....just what i listed above)
the patched installed successfully.
i've just loaded up the game and no problems.....i don't have sound, but i'm sure once i've reinstalled my sound drivers it will still run fine....
so that's it people, that's how i overcame that damn "patch failed" install....i hope it works for all of u. I'm posting this on every forum i can inorder to try and help everyone with this same issue.

ummm ... You don't have to reinstall windows for it to work. :|
