Default Did manual BF2 program removal and now I can't reload

I have done everything I can think of - searched for any files with BF, BF2, battlefield and battlefield2 and the computer is clean of anything from the game - now when I try to reload it gets to the installer and then goes back to the windows desktop.

I've seen that the installer will stop if it finds the game already loaded, but where could I not be looking to find remnants? The program uninstall shows BF2 as still on the computer, but it have the program size at only 12 megs

Just want to re-install so I can get playing again - any help will be greatly appreciated

Howdy,

Try the following, and take care to not delete anything other that stuff relevent to BF2 in the Windows Registry...

1) Log in as Administrator.

2) Open up the Registry editor. Click Start --> Run --> (type in) regedit --> press Enter

3) Delete the following registry keys(and subkeys)...

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\DICE\Battlefield 2(TM)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2

4) Now, go to the following Registry key, right-click on it and select 'Find', and search on the term... Battlefield. If you get a hit on 'Battlefield 2' then delete the registry key you got the hit on.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall

5) Delete the following folders(and subfolders) from your hard drive if you haven't already done so...

C:\Documents and Settings\YourWindowsUserName\My Documents\Battlefield 2

C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2

Now I hope BF2 will not show as still being installed and you should be ready for a clean installation.

Cheers,

OneTinSoldier

Sounds like some excellent advice - I don't like going into the registry without some idea of what I'm looking for and you provided just what I needed - many thanks!

Sure thing M4A1 Gunslinger, I hope it worked for you.

I bellieve there is an alternate method for you or anyone that is curious and it should keep you from having to muck around with the registry. I didn't consider posting it until I had already posted my previous reply.

-----------------------------------------------

1) Log in as Administrator.

2) Open up the Registry editor. Click Start --> Run --> (type in) regedit --> press Enter

3) Go to the following Registry key...

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall

4) Right-click on it and select 'Find', then search on the term... Battlefield. You should get a hit on 'Battlefield 2' as a data key named 'InstallLocation'.

5) Right-click on the data key named 'UninstallString' and select 'Modify'. The value data will pop up in a little window and the data will already be highlighted. So press 'CTRL+C' to copy it. Then click the 'Cancel' button to close out the little value data window.

6) Now do the following... Start --> Run --> CTRL+V --> Click 'OK' or press Enter

7) The BF2 Uninstaller program will now run and already have the option 'Remove all installed features' checked. Click 'Next' and run through the procedure.

This will uninstall BF2 including all it's entries in the Windows Registry.

8) Now make sure that all the BF2 folders are gone from your hard drive, if not delete them...

C:\Documents and Settings\YourWindowsUserName\My Documents\Battlefield 2

C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2

Hope that helps,

OneTinSoldier
