9800pro upgrade, big problem :/ Spec is; 2400XP+ 1gig DDR GF3 Ti200 64mb BF1942 ran fine, on 800x600 Same spec, but now with a 9800pro At any res above 800x600 the grfx completely corrupt, menus are unreadable, pink and green splashes of colour that an interior designer would be proud of. Once the grfx are like that, the main menu screen (which is locked by the game at 800x600) is also corrupted. It takes a "quit and restart" to get the game back to life. I get the feeling it is due to the designers crazy idea of having the game flick through several resolutions before you are allowed to play. For some reason, I 5think that a lot of grfx cards don't like doing this, which is why I used to have soooo many problems a while back with getting any refresh rate above 60hz. But this corruption thing is doing my nut in. A brand new grfx card, and it still looks the same as it did on my 2 year old previous card >:( Any help? |
Re: 9800pro upgrade, big problem :/ Hi FAF, You have a driver conflict, a bad one apparantly. A good start would be to uninstall the new vid drivers, then go through the hard drive and remove any ATI files left. Now we get to the important part. Go through your hard drive and remove any left over Nvidia files, then get a reg cleaner and go through your registry deleting any references to ATI and NVIDIA. Once you have done this THEN restart your computer and install the latest ATI drivers. For the refresh rate fix if you still have problems you will need to edit your VideoDefault.con file found here; C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 1942\Mods\bf1942\Settings You should see a line like this; renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 0 Change the 0 to a 1, save and restart game then select video mode again, you should then have a selection of refresh rates to choose from. The change of resolutions shouldn't happen if you stop the intro movies from playing by either deleting them or renaming the movie folder to something else. Good luck, let me know how you go. :cya: :cya: :cya: :smokin: |
Re: 9800pro upgrade, big problem :/ I agree with the "kid" it's definately a driver conflict. Get Nasty File Remover it will find all those leftover .dll's & other crap still tryin' to load. It's completely safe, I use it every time I change drivers. |
Re: 9800pro upgrade, big problem :/ 1. I have tried using NFR, but it's installation is corrupt; "Runtime error 939" "Component 'MSCOMCTL.OCX' or one of it's dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invlaid" 2. The driver conflict is a confusion to me, because every other piece of software (CS, Star Wars Galaxies, C&C Generals) runs fine in any resolution. It may still be a driver conflict, but it's strange how it only happens in BF1942, and then only at 1024 or above. I am usually very careful with driver updates, uninstalling the drivers, loading up the basic VGA ones, installing from scratch etc. But I will endeavour to go through the registry with a fine toothed comb to get rid of any crap. Edit: Just installed an ran CleanMyPc registry cleaner, no driver conflicts |
Re: 9800pro upgrade, big problem :/ i had that EXACT same problem before. it was around the time of 1.3 version, but i do remmeber it. I couldnt do anything above that resolustiion (800X600, and it was kind of laggy looking). However my other games worked great. At the time though, i had not updated to a new video card, and i cant even remember if i had upgraded drivers during that time either. Great help huh?!?!?, BUT i can tell you how i fxed it. I got so pissed of i just reformated and reinstalled windows....worked great! But i dont really reccomend it, becasue im sure its a simple fix, its just a matter of finding it.... |

Re: 9800pro upgrade, big problem :/ Hi guys, I have never been that keen on automated registry tools, they are only as good as the ppl who make them, and they do get out of date. Even though CleanMyPc Registry cleaner found no registry conflicts there may still be a driver conflict due to left over drivers on the HD. As C0CKER said, he fixed his by re-installing when nothing else would work, so it was definately a driver problem of some sort. Now it could be a DirectX problem, which is a bit harder to fix than it should be. In fact with agent00ry's problem I have heard of the exact same problem being fixed by re-installing DirectX. And the fact that your other games run FAF, doesn't necessarily mean its not a driver conflict, it simply means that the graphic features that are essential to BF (ie: Hardware Transform and Lighting) are not required or used by the other games. I would suggest as a start removing and re-installing DirectX. The problem with DirectX is you can't simply install it over the top of itself, it will check to see which version is installed and simply won't do anything if the version already installed is the same or later version, so you will have to get a DX killer App to get rid of it. Try this one; http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat/14/4/14-4-40.shtml Not having used it myself I can't give any promises, but M$ doesn't have a DX remover program and this seems to be a commonly used one. Once you have done that then re-install the latest Version of DirectX and see how you go. Good luck :cya: :cya: :cya: :smokin: |
