Oneline help

After connecting to a seriver, during the loading map screen, I get kicked back to the desktop. I can create my own game online (no one seems to connect) I can play single player too. I'm running on an adsl line at 256k. My line goes through a gateway which essentialy turns my house into a giant modem. Basically I network my dsl through the phoneline (I still get dsl speeds). In case you didn't get it, i use this

Here's my my system infro from dxdiag, and a couple of other things that might help you solve my problem.

Thanks in Advance.

Re: Oneline help

Hi icecream,

Using a "Router" on your DSL line to network multiple computers is quite common, the Router hands all the hard stuff using NAT (Network Address Translation), however it does make it difficult to host a game, becuase the router actually receives the IP address from your service provider (typically in the style of 68.102.96.113 - just replace the numbers with yours) but to handle multiple computers in the house it gives them IP addresses that are NOT visible to the internet (typically of the non-internet reserved space like 192.168.0.****) To host a game you need to set up port forwarding in the router for the ports that BF uses AND for the ports that Gamespy and ASE uses (if you want players to find them using those browsers).

Normally you should be able to connect out through the router to get into a game since that is a request to join originating from within the network and should therefore not be a problem, however the Router may have a built in firewall that is preventing the connection.

The easiest way to check if it is the router is to simple remove it temporarily from the line and connect the computer you are playing on directly top the dsl line. If you can then connect and play it would indicate that you need to reconfigure the Router. If you are still having problems at least it eliminates the Router as a problem and we can then go to work on your computer. Do you get any error messages when it quits?
