Default Installation Problems

Computer Stats:
Windows 2000 Pro OS
GeForce 3 Video Card
Sound Blaster Live! Sound Card
384MB of RAM
50x max CDROM drive

I start the installation and then it asked to insert the disk with the data3.cab file so I put in disk 2 and press ok and I get the error: "Specified component cannot be found in the media. An attempt was made to access a component that does not exist in the named media." I tried installing on another computer and it works and the disk is clean. I also made sure the CDROM works by installing another game. The drive letter is D: and the directory I chose when is asks for the disk is D:\ (I tried D: too). I ended up copying the Battlefield 1942 file from EA GAMES off another computer on my LAN and created an EA GAMES folder in Program Files but when I tried to play online it said invalid cd key when I joined a game. Anyone know how I can get BF1942 to work?

Hi [SHiM]Snafu,

This is probably a problem with your CDROM drive. Simply because one game installs OK doesn't mean battlefield will install OK. It might be that the CDROM has problems reading the outermost track of the CD, but the other game you installed didn't have data on the outer tracks of the CD drive. There are other alternatives to installing from the CDROM Drive, you could try copying the files to a folder on your hard drive and try installing from there (this will also have problems though if the CDROM is having problems reading the outermost tracks and that's where the data is.)

Of course you could also try borrowing your mates CDROM and installing that temporarily in your PC and installing from that. installiung and removing CDROM drives is probably the easiest thing to do when working with computer hardware so you shouldn't have any serious problems.

Good luck
