Default Error "Failed to connect to server"

Every server i try to connect to replys with this error. i am really new and i dont have a clue what im doing so any help wouldn't go a miss.

Some1 please tell me where to download the updates?? i am such a newb that i dont know where to download the updates.

OK, first, all updates done? BF 1.6 AND 1.61b. Any mods need to be latest version (ie: DC 0.7+ DC: Final).

Make sure you are connecting to a server that has the same version you are running, and make sure if it is a mod server that you have the same version of the mod. Now that's out of the way, there are other things that can affect your connection to the game, firewall for instance. If you are running a firewall (either software or hardware) disable or uninstall it and test. If it then works you will need to open the required game ports in your firewall.

like i said im a complete noobie i havent done any updates cuz i dont know where to get em from!!!! but as soon as ive downloaded em ur advice shud help cheers.
