Home Server...

I want to host a 24 player server from my home. I'll probably have it running DC and regular BF. I am just wondering what kind of specs my comp would need to maintain a playable internet game, or, is it even possible? Thanks for the help.

Re: Home Server...

Well for a start you don't need a HUGELY powerfuc computer just to host a game, a Athlon 2 Ghz with 512 or 1 Gb mem, will do nicely to host a 24 or 32 player game (if you are running a dedicated server you only need basic graphics and you can run with a less powerful CPU, say a 1.4). Your problem is not the computer but the bandwidth required to host a game, which weighs in at about a min of 5kbs per person downsteam, which makes it roughly 120kps for 24 players or 720 Mb per hour.

If your account can stand the strain go ahead, I will be very interested in hearing about the reults seeing as most ppl stick with 6 ish players for private servers.

Have fun
