sound problems in bf1942

i just installed bf1942. used to have problems with the ol' "closes to desktop" thing. fixed that. then when i load it and see the EA intro, i notice there's no sound. my sound card is fine and up to date, my speakers work fine too. i played around with the sound settings in game to see if it did something, but there was still absolutely no sound at all.

by the way: i dont have the 1.5 patch installed...maybe that's the problem?

you could try installing the patch and see what happens....but I dont think its going to resolve the issue...I hate to say it but, perhaps a total reinstall of the game might fix everything

Did you try all the simple things like turning down the hardware accelleration and sample rate conversion quality in control panel?

There are 2 ways to do it.

Either go to START,RUN then type in DXDIAG and click on OK.this will open The Direct X Diagnostic Tool.Go to the 'Sound' tab at the top and reduce Hardware Accelleration in there. This does not, however allow you to adjust the sample rate quality. So i would use the 2nd method.

Go to START,Control Panel,Sounds and Audio Devices.

Click on the Audio tab at the top and then look for 'Sound Playback' and click where it says Advancaed.

Onthe next menu that comes up click on the 'Performance' tab.You can use this to adjust the quality of the sound your PC creates etc. Then apply it and ok it.Play wround with it and see what suits you best,it can free up a bit or RAM sometimes too without any noticable difference.

I hope this will help you out.
