Smile Merciless Texturepack use with custom maps HELP!

Having a problem, hope someone can help...

I have installed the Merciless add-on 3.5 (bf1942 V1.2), which is working perfectly. I have installed skins (by map as is possible with the mod) and they work fine. I also installed the EsP Remagen Mod. The map works fine but it appears to use the default EUROPE texture set. I want to set this map (and any other new maps which come out later) so I can use the texturepack feature of the merciless mod and change the skins on the new maps. I have tried everything I could think of to make this work but alas, no joy. Can anyone help?

This problem has also got me wondering about the new "Road to Rome" expansion pack due out early next year. How/Will this work with Merciless mod? Anyone have any ideas how we can handle that when it is released?

thanks!

Exclamation 2 mods

I think this is the biggest problem with 1.2.As far as I know you cannot run 2 mods at a time.I have Remagen installed too,you have to activate it in custom game. That means you switch off MC3.5!

I think you would have to edit this line in one of the init.con files buried inside the Battle_of_Bilston.rfa.

textureManager.alternativePath Texture/Battle_of_Bilston
to something like this...
textureManager.alternativePath TextureSets/BF1942/Battle_of_Bilston

I tried to edit this last night to see if it works but I'm much better at taking these things apart than putting them back together.

Default merciless addons and other mods

Actually you can run 2 or more mods at the same time. I saw a post on how to do this but was not intrested at the time so I guess i'll have to go back and look.

here is a quick fix if you want to play the new maps with the merciless addon.

simply copy the map rfa file from the mod and paste it into your battlefield1942/mods/bf1942/archives/bf1942/levels folder. This will allow you to play the map without activating the mod..HOWEVER, If you log into a server that has the mod active, it will default to that and the merciless addon will not load. Also, if you do this and load the map without activating the mod, the loader screen will be blank as you are essentially bypassing the mod itself and just using the map. I have played on a few servers that were operating this way.

I'm not necessarily recommending this because it is kind of a pain and doesn't work unless you log into a server operating the map the same way. I'm sure there is a better way, just have not figured it out yet. If i find the solution I'll let ya know...I'm sure there is a way. I don't know very much about his stuff yet, I'm fiquring it out as I go..hopefully someone will read this and offer some help!

thanks

That may work if you want to play the new maps with MC enabled but if you want to do a custom skin set for that map you need to tell it to look in a different folder for the new skin set.

Default Info

Remember each map must have a RFA that tells the Alternative Texture Path = \TextureSets \etc etc

Without this.. the map / modded map will default to its original texture location.

We only created rfa files for each of the default 16 maps.

Future updates to the MC addon include:

Possible MC 3.7 for Coral Sea update
the big one MC 4.0 for compatibility for Road to Rome

Will have to see how things go...

If you read the detailed readme about the Texturesets... it should explain how everything must be set to run texturepacks or custom textures. If you use another mod, it is up to you to make it work outside of the Merciless environment... the docs should help alot.

Be sure to install 3.6 not 3.5. There is a better installer and also more docs with backup abilities.

Good luck
