Discrimination Hey. I remember in the 6th grade, we learned about the CIVIL RIGHTS LAW! It was a wonderful thing, stating: "...Discrimination occurs when the civil rights of an individual are denied or interfered with because of their membership in a particular group or class. Statutes have been enacted to prevent discrimination based on a persons race, sex, religion, age, previous condition of servitude, physical limitation, national origin and in some instances sexual preference..." taken from http://www.law.cornell.edu/topics/civil_rights.html When clans have an age limit, doesnt this interfere with the Civil Rights Law, which plainly states that discrimination is illegal, including based on a persons age? How are clans allowed to do this still? If they can do that, why dont some websites allow only Scottish people to see them? only people ages 2-10 to see them? Thats discrimination, and is just as bad as segregating races! Just a question! |

Age DOES NOT go along with maturity. I have a 12 year old friend who is very immature. By 12 he should be at LEAST a little more mature. 13 year olds can be as mature as anyone else... |

Hi all, There is a basis that allows legal discrimination based on certain traits. For instance most universities have a score based discrimination system, you have to reach a certain level of academic achievement before you can get into that particular university. Most ppl, when they hear the word discrimination, immediately think, ahaa, racism, ageism etc, but the word discrimination can apply to any system that limits access to certain groups based on a personal trait. Discrimination on age basis is allowed when applied to the younger part of the population, ie: you can't get a drivers license under the age of (fill in respective age of particular country/state etc), drinking also, mainly on the premise that ppl under a certain age are not always capapble of making the correct judgements and decisions in certain situation (not always true in my opnion, I have seen many so-called adults mess up big time where I know of some younger ppl with more sense who would be ok), so in the case of not allowing ppl under 18 in their clan they may have a valid age based argument - however if they are basing their discrimination on the fact that they consider everybody under 18 as immature they are probably making a mistake. There would be no legal argument if they said "under 15's weren't allowed" cause the game itself is rated mature (15 years and over) and they would be well within their rights to refuse anyone under that age to join. I certainly don't agree with their policy, but I woudn't feel inclined to argue the point with them when there are so many clans around who simply base their membership requirements on skill and ability. underage clan members they are nothing but trouble and even though i find them to be the most dedicated because they are computer geeks that cant go out and get any of the opposite sex. they usually are high maintenance and cause a lot of trouble within the clan. collosus x |
well there is nothing to stop them. clans are not under legal jurisdiction lest they do something bad. they are a private group, not sponsored by the government, so, they have every right to discriminate about who can join and who cannot. in my experience i have seen very mature 13 year olds, and very immature 23+ year olds. the thing that comes along with age (usually) is people skills, and problem solving. not to mention more of a team spirit. |
your a moron, this does not interfer with private, non-profit groups. ever heard of the golf course that doesnt let women be in it, its becuz its non-profit organization. so your saying that people under 18 should be able to go to pornographic sights because its discrimination!? |

I agree with collosus Im the the 479th (www.479th.org) and we recently had a member who was 12 years old. All he did was want to play play play and all he did on teamspeak was talk talk talk. He never could take a break and this caused frustration on the part of most of us. WE finally gave him the boot and its a lot quieter around here. And on this whole discrimination topic, come on people, its just a game here. You can cry or play... |

I know it all depends on your experiences and values. Some 12yr olds are hecka good at games and know how to keep their mouths shut. I joined hecka 18+ yr old clans when I was 12 which was a year ago and they all let me in because I was: a great player, talked about important things, knew when to keep my mouth shut, ect. But ya I agree that girls shouldn't be in Boys Scouts. Kinda defeats the purpose. Would you girls like to see a boy selling girl scout cookies in your troop?(mmmm girl scout cookies. I just bought like 10 boxes) |

only mature, dedicated players will ever get into my clan. i see immaturity etc. and they are gone. the thing is usally with higher ages come maturity, skill, and money in no certain order other than maturity comes first. |
I think that disctimination in clans shouldnt be something to bitch about cause they can do whatever they want but i think if you have the skill and dedication you should be able to get into a clan no matter your age. Actually those lil' ones would probably be good in a clan cause they are the only ones who really have that much free time to dedicate to a clan. Anyone over 18 who is in a clan in fact seriously needs to find something better to do with their time. I dont like the ideas of clans anyway cause ur taking a game to seriously and all you need to do is just chill out and have fun whenever u got some time free. You shouldnt try to turn gaming into a career or anything cause its just not natural and rather pathetic. |

who cares? If people don't want younger people in a clan they have every right to do so, they started the clan and keep it organized. If it makes you this mad, just give up on clans and play solo. |

I'm 13 and am more mature and play better than many old players...But i have a clan already, but i do think other clans should understand that age dose not effect how mature you are. |

I'm more for deciding upon individuals, myself. If someone's annoying, don't let em in a clan, or show em the door if you let em join and things just didn't work out. Most folks don't worry that much about a game anyways. As far as I'm concerned, I'm far more offended by some of the callsigns I see, rather than age descrimination. Lots of moronic bigots seem to like this game. Sad, really. Of course so is the plight of the endangered blue-footed booby. Nice birds. Funny name. Could wind up extinct. to put it simply anyone under the age of 18 hasnt experienced the things we did as we got older. working well in relationships is one of them. im not doggin their abilities. crap if i only had to do homework and school i could be the greatest player also. i have found in competing they are the first to whine "bs" "man he didnt get me" "hes cheating" and i could go on. now im not saying thats is all young guys but i would say 99% of the ones i have known. it isnt possible for them to understand how a relationship works because they havent experienced anything yet. you can argue and post that you do, but you dont. its not a put down but a fact. also these are realtionships you are building when you stay in a clan for a long time. who wants to wait for one member to have his mom buy road to rome or his mom freaks out if you call him at home because practice has changed and he hasnt replied to your emails. ive been in my clan for 3 years we hangout on gamevoice 24/7, know each other by their real names , and have each others phone numbers. i just cant get enough to play 1942 to compete. its not all their fault but you deal with a lot of bs. ive been in a thousand matches where the young guy will say i have to be off by ten cuz my mom said so. not a put down but personally im not dealing with it. thats my view and im sure their will be another 5 pages of posts on this one. collosus x |
