Well in this case thats wrong. Punkbuster released a new update and is doing this to several people. The solution is this:

Tuesday 04.17.2007 [12:15PM]

Version 1.701 of the PB Client for BF2142 has been released to our PB Master Servers for auto-update and to our website download page.

Release Notes for PB Client v1.701:

  • the new PB services are no longer optional, see our PB Services FAQ for more info
  • the new PB services now support 64 bit flavors of Windows
So in other words you need to go to http://www.evenbalance.com/downloads/pbsvc/pbsvc.exe and download that program. Basically all this does is let you run the game without admistration rights, which in XP we are always running adminstration rights, and puts two new services that run in the background which are called "PunkA.exe" & "PunkB" But none the less now with the new update you have to run these two services while you are connected to a punkbuster server.

k do you have a firewall running? If you do shut it off and try that. I had a guy in our clan that had his firewall running and had PunkA and PunkB running and it still didn't work. Once he shut the firewall down it worked then. Try this. And if you need more help just add me to xfire= generalcleanx

Yeah, sorry I didn't say, but I wasn't allowed on the PC yesterday. PnkBstrA and B were blocked. But I've got it working now, so thankyou!

Actually no it wasn't his net at all, it was his firewall blocking the programs so it was his puter.

ye i thought it was because of that, because this morning, i deleted the pnkbstrA and pnkbstrB in the system column of task manager, and it makes sense due to what the message said, lol. i guess i should just reboot and let those 2 process come back on again, well thanks for saying what it was. lol

I just started getting this message to. I haven't been on for about a month and now I'm getting the Packet loss message. I downloaded the new program mentioned and ran it and everything passed but I still get the message 6 out of 10 times maps.

ok, this is what i did to get the problem solved.
i deleted 2 process in task manager called pnkbstrA and pnkbstrB
these should stay on as they are part of the punkbuster thing
if they turn off or it just does it randomly by itself, a fresh reboot should do the trick, well that's what helped me anyway
hope this helps

note: if none of this helps then try reinstalling punkbuster and re-update battlefield 2142 again

I'm having exactly the same problem and whitled it down to it being my firewall (game runs perfectly when it's off).

Problem is, I can't find PnkBstrA anywhere in my PB folder. PnkBstrB I have found and have added to my allow list on my firewall.

Can someone give me a path to the location of PnkBstrA.exe?
It's either somewhere that's just not obvious to me, or I have a problem.
