Re: helis/planes

If you are having difficulty flying the planes with a mouse (I know I can't do it) get a joystick. Helicopters, however, are easier for me to fly with the mouse/kb. I've also found that I can switch between mouse/kb and joystick with no problem.

Re: helis/planes

In BF1942 I would switch to a game pad to fly planes. I found that the pad made helo flying a tad difficult for DC and EoD so I stuck with keys/mouse in those mods. Going on the same assumption, I use keys/mouse for the helos in BF:V and the gamepad for jets.

I've seen some killer pilots out there in BF1942 (and various mods) and BF:V and keep hearing that most of the good pilots out there are using joysticks. I just don't want to spend the dough for a kickass joystick (the gamepad was 15 - 20 bucks).

Anyhow, practice, practice, practice (offline)... you can do a killer job with just mouse/keys flying the helos in BF:V.

Welcome to the BFV forums, Airforce :)

I use a MS Sidewinder Precision Pro joystick, the non force feedback one and it ROCKS. Cheap as well.
Once you learn how to fly with a stick, you will ask yourself how you ever flew without it.

Re: helis/planes

I have what Beef Flaps has. To program it go to the controls tab (i think thats it) in BF1942 and follow the directions from there.

Oh yeah, I use a joystick for both helos and planes i find mouse/keyboard to difficult to fly either.

Re: helis/planes

yes go with mouse! dont go spend money on a joystick!! buy yourself something special instead of buying a joystick. BTW only the cool kids fly with mouse.

You won't regret it :) Just stay away from the "force feedback" one.

Well, it takes away from the game IMO. and gets annoying.
I suggest using the force feedback ones for Flight SIMS only, but thats just my experience.

Waste of money? I think not.
Any experienced flyer in this game will tell you a stick is the best to fly with.
Have YOU ever tried to fly with a stick, or are you just bashing it because you are bored?

Re: helis/planes

I'll tell ya - for flying planes a joystick is a very worthy investment. I'm not going to zip the mouse across the pad 7 or 8 times to pull up ever again.

Helicopters I still use the mouse. I feel I have more control that way.

Re: helis/planes

im planning to get a joystick, but i have to figure out a way so my parents will buy it for me hehehe. should i get a new joystick or more ram so it loads faster on bfv?

CamBo May 14th, 2004 08:55 PM

Re: helis/planes

no no no no. dont make mommy and daddy spoil you with a joystick. just use the mouse! just try it! takes about 5 days to get used to but then you will be the ace of the sky!

Re: helis/planes

Mouse + plane = crap. You can't tell me flying with a mouse is easier or better. Anyone who says so is clearly insane.

I stopped flying planes with a mouse in the middle of Red Baron II. For all of you not old enough to remember that game, it was a WWI flight sim by Sierra/Dynamix in the early 90's. I restarted my campaign when I got a joystick because I flew THAT MUCH BETTER. In fact, my final score at the end of the game was double what (the real) Red Baron had.

Joysticks really aren't THAT expensive. One is absolutely worth having.

I don't fly. My game wil get all jumpy and I tend to crash, so why waste valuable lives.

Re: helis/planes

I generally like flying any chopper and I like to have someone with me too, cause I tend to be a flag getter and not a hang around and kill :)

Re: helis/planes

i have praticed with the keyboad only and have become very good at flying. here is a tip, pull up slightly when landind it slow you may down to almost 0 speed.

ScOrPY May 15th, 2004 05:02 AM

Re: helis/planes

Yeah thats exactly what I do, as im incoming to a flag i pull up a tad to slow down right over flag.
